‘The Odyssey’ Keeps Dominating – Epic Adventure Scores Massive Monday Box Office Win
Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is showing no signs of slowing down. The epic adventure continued its impressive box office run with a huge Monday performance, bringing in an estimated $17.5 million in the U.S. and Canada.
The latest numbers come from box office estimates shared by industry sources. If the figures hold, The Odyssey will claim the biggest Monday box office result of 2026 so far, beating some of the year’s biggest releases.
The film is expected to pass Toy Story 5, which earned $17.3 million on its Monday after release on June 22. It would also move ahead of Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, which recorded a $16.4 million Memorial Day Monday earlier this year.
The strong weekday performance shows that audiences are continuing to show up for Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s legendary epic poem. The movie has already become one of the biggest theatrical successes of the year and continues to attract viewers days after its opening weekend.
Among Christopher Nolan’s previous films, The Odyssey now ranks as one of his strongest Monday performers. It sits behind only The Dark Knight, which earned $24.4 million on its Monday in 2008, and The Dark Knight Rises, which made $19.3 million on its Monday in 2012. For comparison, Oppenheimer earned $12.67 million on its first Monday.
The movie’s momentum can also be seen in theaters across major cities. Premium formats, especially IMAX screenings, remain extremely popular, with many showings in Los Angeles and New York either sold out or close to capacity.
At TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, where The Odyssey had the biggest opening weekend performance in the theater’s history, IMAX 70MM screenings are still drawing major crowds. The theater reportedly earned $523,000 during the film’s opening weekend, beating the previous record held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $455,000.
Other major venues are seeing similar demand. AMC Lincoln Square in New York has also had strong ticket sales for IMAX presentations, while other premium theaters continue to see fans choosing larger formats to experience Nolan’s latest movie.
The film’s overall box office numbers are already impressive. After four days in theaters, The Odyssey has earned around $141 million domestically, according to current estimates. That puts it well ahead of Oppenheimer’s four-day opening performance from 2023, which reached about $95 million.
Oppenheimer later became a massive success, finishing its North American run with $330 million and winning multiple Academy Awards. The Odyssey is now on track to become an even bigger commercial hit for Nolan.

International audiences have also responded strongly. The movie has collected an estimated $140.2 million overseas, bringing its worldwide opening total to around $263.7 million. That makes it the biggest global opening of Nolan’s career, surpassing The Dark Knight Rises, which opened worldwide with $249 million in 2012.
With strong ticket sales, packed premium screenings, and continued audience interest, The Odyssey is proving that large-scale original films can still become major box office events. The movie’s journey is far from over, and its final numbers could continue climbing in the weeks ahead.
