Several weeks back, Florence Pugh led us through the ‘Thunderbolts*’ set and showcased her new costume. At one point in the movie, a chair can be seen with the new logo of the movie. Fans were quick to notice that the new logo had an asterisk, but most attributed this to being in some way related to production.

Then came this year’s CinemaCon, during which Feige presented both the new logo and confirmed the title change, saying that the asterisk will be explained later but not before the movie releases.

Yesterday, Atlanta_filming posted a now-deleted Instagram post in which it refers to ‘Thunderbolts*’ as ‘Thunderbolts* Part 1.’

Many fans are now theorizing that the asterisk is actually hiding the fact that Thunderbolts will be a series of movies instead of just a standalone movie meant to introduce the team to the MCU.

The nature of the Instagram post is truly weird, because why would you refer to the movie in such a weirdly specific way? Even more so because the movie hasn’t been released yet and a sequel furthers things from everyone’s mind?

Some fans’ theorized that “both” movies are being shot back-to-back, which seems unlikely given that Iger is drastically changing the direction of the MCU, wanting to invest in only sure hits, following a disastrous box-office year.

‘Thunderbolts*’ didn’t have easy development so far, being marked by the SAG-AFTRA strike, and then months before the movie was supposed to shoot Steven Yeun gave up on his role of Sentry, forcing the studio to recast him with Lewis Pullman being the top choice to replace him with the rumors soon confirmed by the studio.’

Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Weisz are set to reprise their roles as Bill Foster and Melina Vostokoff in the MCU. Geraldine Viswanathan joined the cast as de Fontaine’s assistant after a schedule delay led to the departure of another actor. The film’s release date was moved to May 5, 2025, swapping with The Fantastic Four. Joanna Calo was tasked with rewriting the script, with earlier drafts focusing on the team’s mission, potentially resulting in their deaths.
