‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ Is Coming to an End with a New Teaser, Here’s Everything We Know About Its Final Season

Few characters in modern television history have shown as much staying power as Daryl Dixon, whose journey has now stretched well over a decade and a half across multiple series within the sprawling ‘Walking Dead‘ universe. Norman Reedus first brought the crossbow-wielding survivor to life back in 2010, and after carrying him through the original series’ full run and into his own standalone spinoff, that remarkable stretch is finally approaching its conclusion.

That conclusion arrives in the form of Season 4, which AMC has now officially confirmed will be the final chapter of ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’. The announcement puts a firm end date on a spinoff that first launched in 2023, sending Daryl on an unexpected journey through Europe after the character was unceremoniously separated from his home and loved ones.

Norman Reedus marked the milestone with an emotional statement reflecting on the show’s run. “Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride,” Reedus said. “It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced. Your love and support have made every moment worth it.”

Reedus also shared more personal reflections after wrapping production, marking the final day of filming with an emotional social media post. “Daryl Dixon’s final episodes are coming 2027! I can’t quite believe we’re here,” he wrote, adding, “We’ve gotten a lot of bruises, scars, and concussions along the way. A lot of hard work went into this series, especially the crews. This last chapter is gonna hit different and hit hard.”

The final season will once again pair Reedus alongside Melissa McBride, who returned as Carol Peletier for Season 3 after the character’s absence throughout most of the spinoff’s earlier run. According to creator David Zabel, the final eight episodes were filmed across multiple locations in Spain, including Madrid, Bilbao, Galicia, Andalucia, Segovia, and Toledo, continuing the show’s tradition of using real European locations to ground its post-apocalyptic storytelling.

The decision to end the series was first revealed during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con back in July 2025, ahead of the Season 3 premiere. This year’s Comic-Con confirmed further details, with executive producer Scott M. Gimple announcing that the final season will air sometime in 2027, though AMC has yet to lock in an exact premiere date.

That 2027 window represents a delay from the show’s originally planned 2026 release, a shift that initially disappointed fans hoping for a quicker resolution to Daryl and Carol’s journey. Despite the pushback, the delay ensures AMC maintains its remarkable 17-year streak of releasing new ‘Walking Dead’ content annually since the franchise’s original 2010 debut, a run that continues largely thanks to sister spinoff ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’, which remains the franchise’s only other actively producing series.

Beyond wrapping up Daryl and Carol’s specific storyline, Gimple has also hinted at broader ambitions for the character’s future within the wider franchise, including hopes for an eventual reunion between Daryl and Rick Grimes. AMC Studios President Dan McDermott has similarly suggested that discussions remain ongoing regarding Reedus potentially returning to the role again down the line, leaving the door open even as this particular chapter closes.

With eight final episodes now completed and a 2027 release window locked in, fans will have to wait a bit longer to see how Daryl and Carol’s long, chaotic road back home finally comes to an end.
