Tom Brady has revealed that his current dog, Junie, is actually a clone of his late dog, Lua. Lua, a pit bull mix, was shared with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and their children and passed away in December 2023.

After her death, Brady welcomed Junie, a dog that closely resembled Lua. Nearly two years later, he confirmed that Junie is a scientific replica of his beloved pet.

Brady shared the news on November 4, which coincided with an announcement from Colossal Biosciences, a biotech company he invests in.

Colossal, which helped clone Lua, recently acquired Viagen Pets and Equine, a company known for cloning high-profile pets. Viagen has previously cloned Barbra Streisand’s dog Samantha and Paris Hilton’s dog Diamond Baby. According to a press release obtained by PEOPLE, Viagen uses technology developed by the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, famous for cloning Dolly the Sheep in the late 1990s.

Brady explained that the process began with a simple blood draw from Lua before she passed. “I love my animals. They mean the world to me and my family,” he said. “A few years ago, I worked with Colossal and leveraged their non-invasive cloning technology through a simple blood draw of our family’s elderly dog before she passed.”

He added that the cloning process gave his family “a second chance with a clone of our beloved dog.” Brady also expressed excitement about the technology, saying it could help other families preserve their pets and even assist in saving endangered species.

This announcement highlights the growing use of cloning in the pet industry and the technology’s potential beyond personal use. It also shows how high-profile figures like Brady are helping bring attention to biotech innovations.
