Tom Holland Just Weighed in on Marvel’s Ultimate Nightmare Matchup Between Spider-Man & Superman, and Fans Are Losing It

Superhero debates never really go away; they just find new actors to reignite them. With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ dominating headlines this week and DC’s own slate quietly building momentum in the background, it was only a matter of time before someone asked Tom Holland to weigh in on the ultimate crossover fantasy matchup.

Holland has spent the better part of the last decade fielding these kinds of comparison questions on nearly every red carpet and press junket he’s walked through. Whether it’s Batman, Superman, or whoever else journalists want to pit against his webslinger, Holland tends to lean into the bit rather than dodge it entirely.

That pattern held true again when Holland was recently asked point-blank whether Spider-Man could actually beat Superman in a straight fight. According to a widely circulated clip, Holland’s answer landed somewhere between honest and self-deprecating, suggesting that Spider-Man’s odds would only really improve if he somehow got his hands on a piece of Kryptonite to level the playing field.

It’s a fittingly funny answer given how lopsided that matchup would genuinely be on paper. Superman’s array of powers, from flight and heat vision to near-invulnerability, puts him in an entirely different weight class than a hero who primarily relies on webs, agility, and enhanced strength.

This isn’t the first time Holland has been dragged into a Marvel-versus-DC showdown during this particular press cycle. Just weeks earlier, at the New York premiere of ‘The Odyssey,’ Holland was asked what Batman has over Spider-Man, a question tied to his real-life friendship with Robert Pattinson.

Holland’s response then was similarly playful, admitting that the only real edge Batman has is his bank account. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Holland joked that Bruce Wayne’s wealth is essentially the only thing separating the two heroes, since Spider-Man’s actual superpowers give him a fighting chance against nearly anyone else in a cape or cowl.

Holland’s willingness to keep playing along with these comparisons says a lot about where he is in his run as Spider-Man right now. With ‘Brand New Day’ marking his fourth solo outing as Peter Parker, the actor has clearly settled into a comfortable, confident rhythm on press tours, one where he can poke fun at his own character without sounding defensive about it.

It also doesn’t hurt that Holland has plenty to be confident about at the moment. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has been drawing strong reactions from critics and audiences alike ahead of its theatrical release, with the film picking up Peter’s story four years after the world-altering memory wipe that closed out ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home.’

The timing of these DC comparisons is almost too perfect given how much attention Superman himself has been getting lately, with David Corenswet’s take on the character continuing to generate its own wave of discussion. Fans clearly can’t resist pitting the two franchises against each other, even when the actors involved are the first to admit the matchups wouldn’t be close.

At the end of the day, these interview moments are less about settling any real debate and more about giving fans something fun to argue over online. Whether it’s Batman’s wallet or Superman’s near-total invulnerability, Holland seems perfectly happy to let his character lose these hypothetical showdowns with a smile.
