‘Toy Story 6’ Is Already Being Planned, and Andrew Stanton Wants Bonnie to Get Her Own Perfect Trilogy

Before ‘Toy Story 5’ has even finished its opening weekend, director Andrew Stanton is already thinking several moves ahead. The filmmaker has suggested that a sixth installment in the beloved Pixar franchise is not only possible but part of a deliberate creative vision, one that mirrors the emotional arc that made Andy’s story feel so complete across the original three films.

Speaking on the red carpet at the ‘Toy Story 5’ premiere in early June, Stanton framed the franchise’s future in terms of a new trilogy, saying the first three films were the end of the Andy years and that “we’ve got another trilogy with Bonnie.” The comment landed with considerable weight for a series that has now produced five films and shows no sign of slowing down.

When asked by Dexerto where he would like to see the franchise go over the next 30 years, Stanton pointed to the honest, life-following storytelling approach that he believes made the Andy era work. “I would want it to be honest, like it has been, and follow the lives of the kids,” he said. “That’s, I think, what really made that feel closed in a perfect trilogy for Andy. Hopefully we’ll do the same if it keeps going for Bonnie, and whoever else comes into their lives.”

Producer Lindsey Collins echoed that sentiment, noting that the franchise has always succeeded by tracking what is genuinely happening in children’s lives across different eras, and that following that thread is what makes each new chapter feel earned rather than obligatory.

Stanton has also told Entertainment Weekly that after spending just two months brainstorming the general lifecycle of a toy during the development of the fifth film, he became convinced there was enough material for at least two more movies, and that the series “can keep going.”

Speaking to Screen Rant, Stanton was equally candid about the possibility of a sequel, saying “you can never say never” and adding that he has always seen a natural path forward in simply continuing to follow Bonnie’s life as the toys experience it alongside her.

No ‘Toy Story 6’ has been officially greenlit by Disney or Pixar, and the financial performance of the fifth film will likely play a significant role in those conversations. The broader franchise has generated roughly $16 billion in revenue for Disney over three decades, making the case for continuation an easy one to make in any boardroom.

If a sixth film does move forward, it would most plausibly find a slightly older Bonnie at its center, potentially via a time jump, with the toys navigating a new chapter of her life just as they once navigated Andy’s journey from childhood to college. The blueprint is already there. Stanton just needs the greenlight to build it.
