Guardians of the Galaxy members have a lot in common. Of course, having similar lives and past situations brings Guardians closer to each other, but what mostly brings them together are the tragedies they experienced before meeting each other. Star-Lord and Gamora had awful power-hungry parents, while Groot and Rocket had to escape their home worlds to bounty hunt across the galaxy. Drax’s story is similarly tragic, including his family – his wife, Ovette, and daughter Kamaria. This article will focus on Drax’s daughter more and explain what we know of her in MCU.

Kamaria is Drax’s daughter from Earth-199999, specifically, Marvel Cinematic Universe, who, with her mother Ovette and father, lived on Kylos as one happy family. However, during his mission to balance the universe, Thanos sent Kree armies and their leader Ronan the Accuser to the Kylos to murder half of the planet’s population, which led to the brutal murders of Ovette and Kamaria. Since then, Drax the Destroyer vowed to destroy Thanos and Ronan the Accuser, the individuals that destroyed his life.

Drax’s family is quite different from his counterpart of Earth-616, so we will dedicate this article to Destroyer’s both families and compare their backstories. If you are interested, stay with us until the end.

All versions of Drax have a daughter

Guardians of the Galaxy share pain of their past lives before joining the team. Both Earth-199999 and Earth-616 versions of the superhero team have been through a lot in their life, and when they meet, they share the pain they carried for their whole life. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, each Guardian has a tragic backstory that seemingly gets worse with each movie. Star-Lord is the child of a power-hungry Celestial who killed his mother might not be the worst life one character went through since Gamora is the daughter of Thanos (which is tragic in so many ways), and Rocket was experimented on for years.

Groot was exiled from his planet for helping the other species escape certain death by his people, while Mantis was raised by “the dad of the year,” Ego. Let’s say that Guardians didn’t have a peaceful life, but Drax’s is extremely tragic.

In Marvel Cinematic Universe, Drax lived on the planet Kylos with his family, consisting of his wife Ovette and daughter Kamaria, who led a good life. Drax the Destroyer met his wife during the war rally, where Ovette refused to dance with everyone else – she wouldn’t want to move a muscle.

According to Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Ovette was so still that she wouldn’t move a single muscle during the dance, even leading to others thinking she was dead. Her no-nonsense attitude was noticed by Drax immediately, who fell in love with the woman on the spot. Ovette and Drax met, married, and got a daughter named Kamaria.

Drax kills Ronan the Accuser.

In Marvel Comics, Arthur Douglas traveled with his family to Los Angeles when Thanos flew across the Mojave Desert. Wanting to prevent anyone from knowing he was on Earth, Thanos attacked the unassuming Douglas family, which led to Arthur’s wife, Yvette, dying.

Arthur’s daughter, Heather, survived the crash and was raised by Mentor to become the superhero we met later, Moondragon. Drax met his daughter much later, but their relationship had some ups and downs over the last few decades – Moondragon even separated the life essence of her father from his body, ultimately killing him.

So yes, both versions of Drax the Destroyer had daughters, Kamaria and Moondragon, with the first having a much worse faith than her Earth-616 counterpart.

What happened to Drax’s daughter?

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Guardians trilogy focused each movie on one character’s backstory, and Drax is the one who suffered a lot. In the first and second Guardians movies, we finally glimpse the character’s backstory, where Drax expresses pure hate against Ronan the Accuser and his “boss,” the Mad Titan, Thanos.

The first Guardians movie sees Drax joining forces with the people who eventually form Guardians of the Galaxy and go on a dangerous mission to acquire a powerful Orb. On the way, Drax encounters one of the members of the Black Order, the Kree, Ronan the Accuser, whom Drax wants to destroy.

In the past, Thanos decided to visit Kylos and balance the universe by killing half of the planet’s population, sending Ronan the Accuser and his Kree to do the “job.”

Ronan and Kree army decided to accomplish the job by killing the innocents of Kylos, including Drax’s wife and daughter, Ovette and Kamaria. They died at the hands of Ronan and Thanos, which deeply hurt and affected Drax, leading to him hunting the murderers of his family.

Kamaria and Drax in the Guardians of the Galaxy: Telltale Games Series.

He eventually got his revenge by blowing the Accuser into pieces; while he didn’t have that satisfaction with Thanos, he helped in the fight against the Mad Titan in Avengers: Endgame movie.

On Earth-199999, Drax’s daughter was brutally murdered, but there is another version of Kamaria in another universe – the Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series. This five-episode game follows Guardians on their quest to protect the artifact from the Hala the Accuser. In that game, Kamaria is alive and well, at least if you choose to revive her in the game.

Nevertheless, at least we see Drax interacting with his daughter somehow since we haven’t seen that in the MCU. In the comics, Drax’s daughter becomes Moondragon, a powerful telepath who becomes an important part of various Marvel stories.
