Will Ghost Rider Make an Appearance in ‘Deadpool 3’? Here’s What We Think

Share:

Since the Marvel Cinematic Universe reached its peak with ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Avengers Endgame,’ two movies that grossed over $2 billion, Marvel Studios is trying to find new ways to keep the audience interested. ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ brought us something new with multiple special returns and fan-favorite cameos, and judging by the box office, that formula works. Now, we have high expectations from ‘Deadpool 3,’ which will also feature many special returns. In this article, we’ll talk about the recently rumored return of Ghost Rider, how true the rumor is, and whether he will appear in ‘Deadpool 3.’

Unofficial sources recently rumored the return of Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider. Therefore, we immediately take this with a grain of salt. Those rumors never actually said in which project he was supposed to return, saying only that his return would happen “sooner than we think” (how would they even know what we think?). So, even if they are truthful, the chances for Cage’s return as Ghost Rider at all are pretty slim, and in ‘Deadpool 3’ specifically, even slimmer. Of course, the movie is expected to feature many surprises, but at this point, there are no confirmations or leads that could justify the anticipation of his return.

The presence of the internet all around us can be equally helpful and unhelpful for superhero fans and the geek culture in general. We aren’t talking only about the spoilers that are pretty hard to avoid if you aren’t watching a new movie on its premiere date. The thing is that today, on the internet, anyone can write anything and present it as a piece of legitimate information. Therefore, we are talking about a literal minefield of potentially false and misleading information, and it hurts me to say it, but some superhero fans can still be pretty easily fooled.

We are living in an era in which superhero movies are using nostalgia and fan service to build up the hype.

After culminating the Infinity Saga with ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ Marvel Studios started to expand the franchise with television series on Disney+ and started building a new saga, later officially titled The Multiverse Saga. However, many new characters have been introduced, and fans have started to fear that the franchise isn’t what it used to be anymore.

Still, with the announcement of two new ‘Avengers’ movies at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige showed that the plan for the future of the franchise exists, but what will lead to that next culmination remains to be seen.

2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ brought back Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire in their Spider-Man roles, along with a handful of villains that previously appeared in Sam Raimi and Marc Webb’s Spider-Man franchises. The movie grossed over two billion dollars, which showed that playing the card of nostalgia and fan service certainly works.

2022’s ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ also had its fair share of fan service, particularly because of bringing back Patrick Stewart as a variant of Charles Xavier. But to be fair, DC’s ‘The Flash’ also attempted to play the same card, and it turned out to be a commercial failure.

After the official announcement that Hugh Jackman and Jennifer Garner will reprise the Wolverine and Elektra roles, a new series of rumors, theories, and reports started surfacing. Unlike ‘No Way Home,’ which officially remained silent about Garfield and Maguire’s return until the premiere (although everybody knew they were returning), Ryan Reynolds officially announced Jackman’s return when the movie was first unveiled.

Will Ghost Rider appear in the MCU in the future? Will Nicolas Cage play him?

Apart from ‘Deadpool 3,’ there are already suspicions that the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies could also feature many surprises regarding fan service and cameo appearances.

To be fair, many cameos that were rumored for ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ didn’t happen in the end, and may we remind you that ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ aren’t even written yet, so whatever rumors you see about these movies that aren’t official, they are not to be believed.

As for Ghost Rider, the fans of ‘Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ know that the character, played by Tom McComas, appeared in the fourth season. Before that, Nicolas Cage portrayed the character in two ‘Ghost Rider’ movies in 2007 and 2011. Both movies were negatively reviewed.

After the second movie, Cage said that he was done with the role, and the rights to the character were reverted to Marvel Studios. Currently, there are no official signs or leads that Ghost Rider will appear in the MCU in the near future, let alone that he will be played by Cage again. The only thing we have is a rumor from an unconfirmed source, which definitely isn’t enough to anticipate the character’s return.

Could Cage return as the Ghost Rider in the future? In theory, yes, he could, but that is only a theory for now. We have no doubt that ‘Deadpool 3’ and all the other MCU movies that are on the way have many surprises prepared for the audience, but there’s no solid ground to build the hype on something that may or may not be true in the end. If we ever get the official announcement that Ghost Rider will appear in the MCU, then we’ll have something official to look forward to.
