‘Winnie the Pooh’ Voice Actor Jim Cummings Breaks His Silence After Being Snubbed for Disney Legends Honor Once Again
Disney’s D23 fan convention has always doubled as a celebration of the company’s history, and this year’s event carried extra weight for longtime fans hoping to see one particular oversight finally corrected. For decades, one of the most recognizable voices in animation history has watched from the sidelines as the company handed out its highest honor to performers, executives, and celebrities across nearly every corner of the entertainment industry.
That voice belongs to Jim Cummings, the man behind Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Darkwing Duck, and more than 1,500 other animated characters across a career spanning over four decades. Cummings wasn’t sitting on the sidelines during this year’s D23 either; he made multiple appearances throughout the weekend, including a panel celebrating Disney Animation history and two performances at the “Disney Rewind Concert.”
Despite that active presence at the event, Cummings once again watched the 2026 Disney Legends ceremony pass him by without his name being called. Following the ceremony, the actor took to social media with a series of posts making clear exactly how he felt about the continued omission, writing simply, “40+ years. 1500+ characters. The voice of generations. No comment.”

That pointed silence spoke louder than any lengthy statement could have. Disney-focused social media accounts documented Cummings sharing multiple posts criticizing the fact that he still hasn’t been named a Disney Legend, with one post specifically questioning how figures like Bob Iger, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and the Jonas Brothers could receive the company’s highest honor before the man who has voiced Winnie the Pooh and Tigger for nearly forty years.
This year’s snub arrives amid a broader, increasingly organized fan campaign pushing for Cummings’ recognition. A Change.org petition launched earlier this year specifically calls on Disney to induct Cummings, describing him as “a cornerstone of Disney’s magical storytelling” whose voices have “brought Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, and countless other characters to life, enchanting audiences of all ages around the globe.”
Cummings’ résumé within the Disney universe extends well beyond his signature roles. He’s voiced more than 1,500 animated characters across nearly 200 films, 134 television series comprising over 2,500 episodes, 175 video games, and 25 animated shorts throughout his career, according to convention materials tied to his D23 appearances. He’s even stepped in to finish a line for Jeremy Irons in “The Lion King” after Irons lost his voice mid-recording during production of “Be Prepared.”
Cummings did receive some formal recognition this year, just not from Disney directly. He was presented with Comic-Con International’s prestigious Inkpot Award during San Diego Comic-Con in late July, an honor that recognizes contributions to comics, science fiction, fantasy, film, television, animation, and fandom. Responding to that honor, Cummings said he felt “truly humbled and blessed to receive such an incredible honor,” adding that he “proudly” shared it with fans who’ve “always been so wonderfully supportive” of his work.
Speculation has already begun swirling around when, or if, Cummings might finally receive the Disney Legends title. Some fans have theorized the recognition could eventually arrive timed to a major project involving his signature characters, though nothing concrete has been confirmed on that front, and the 2026 class has already been finalized without him.
For a performer whose voice has defined childhood for multiple generations of Disney fans, from the parents who grew up with his Pooh to the grandchildren discovering the character today, the continued absence from Disney’s official honor roll remains a stubborn contradiction that even the company’s most devoted fans have struggled to explain. Whether growing public pressure eventually changes that outcome remains to be seen.
Does Jim Cummings deserve to be named a Disney Legend?
