Marvel Studios finally put an end to months of speculation last weekend when it unveiled the full cast for its long-awaited ‘X-Men’ reboot during D23. Among the reveals, Samara Weaving’s casting as Emma Frost stood out as one of the panel’s most talked-about moments, marking the ‘Ready or Not’ star’s first major entry into the superhero genre after years spent headlining horror and dark comedy projects that built her reputation as one of the genre’s most reliable scream queens.

That announcement set off an immediate wave of reaction, both from fans and from Weaving herself, who has spent the days since leaning fully into her new role across social media. Her celebration reached its most striking point on the actual night of the reveal, when she stepped out for D23 in an outfit that left little doubt about how deliberately she was embracing the character.

Weaving posted a run of photos from that Friday night showing herself in a white off-shoulder corset minidress, captioning the sequence in three parts: “emma,” then “frost,” then “xx,” according to Cosmic Book News. White has long been central to Emma Frost’s identity in the comics, tied directly to her alter ego as the White Queen, making Weaving’s choice of dress for the exact night Marvel officially introduced her as the character feel like a deliberate, knowing nod to the role.

That wasn’t Weaving’s first celebratory post tied to the casting, either. When Deadline originally broke the news of her casting back on July 31, Weaving marked the moment with a photo of herself in a flowing white gown captioned simply “Mutant,” which drew immediate reactions from castmates including Kathryn Newton, who commented “Perfect.”

Weaving’s affinity for Emma Frost’s signature look isn’t exactly new, either. Fans quickly resurfaced Instagram photos from October 2024, styled by celebrity stylist Jordan Dorso, showing Weaving dressed head to toe in white on a sunlit balcony nearly two years before Marvel ever cast her, a coincidence eerie enough that some fans have described the entire casting as feeling like manifestation.

Weaving has continued the bit in the days since D23, sharing a poolside photo of herself reading through a stack of Emma Frost comics with the caption “Don’t read into it,” according to AOL. The comics visible in that photo weren’t random either, reportedly including material from Emma’s solo Astonishing X-Men run and the Krakoan Age-era Hellfire Gala storylines.

Weaving joins a broader ensemble that includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Maya Boyd as Storm, and Adam Driver as the villainous Mister Sinister, with Jake Schreier directing the project for a May 5, 2028 release. Given how much visual and social media groundwork Weaving has already laid for the character, expectations for her performance are climbing well before production has even fully ramped up.

With Marvel’s marketing rollout for ‘X-Men’ only just beginning, Weaving’s white-clad D23 celebration looks like the opening note of what promises to be a carefully considered public rollout for one of the franchise’s most iconic characters. Between the deliberate color choice, the resurfaced old photos, and her ongoing comic-book deep dive, Weaving has already made clear she isn’t taking the role lightly.

How excited are you to see Samara Weaving play Emma Frost in the MCU’s new ‘X-Men’ movie?
