Zendaya’s Latest ‘The Odyssey’ Look Might Be the Boldest Statement of the Entire Press Tour
Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic has turned into one of the summer’s most closely watched rollouts, with the cast crisscrossing continents ahead of the film’s theatrical debut. Between New York, London, and now Paris, the ensemble has barely had a moment to catch its breath.
At the center of that rollout sits Zendaya, who takes on the role of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and warfare who watches over Matt Damon’s Odysseus throughout his long journey home. It is a mythological role that comes with enormous expectations, and Zendaya has spent the tour proving she is more than up for the challenge.
That confidence was on full display at the Paris leg of the promotional run, held at Trocadero Square with the Eiffel Tower rising dramatically behind the cast as the sun began to set. Zendaya arrived in a striking white Givenchy Haute Couture look that instantly became one of the most talked-about outfits of the entire campaign.
The tailored white dress, designed by Alexander McQueen during his early tenure at the house, featured sharp structural lines and oversized detachable cuffs, giving the silhouette a sculptural edge that stood apart from typical red carpet fare. Longtime stylist Law Roach paired it with an elaborate gold lace headpiece by Philip Treacy, a design first worn on the Givenchy Spring 1997 runway, tying the entire look back to a specific moment in fashion history.
The Paris stop followed a whirlwind of appearances across the film’s promotional calendar, including an earlier London photocall and the movie’s world premiere. Each stop has added another chapter to what has already become one of the more fashion-forward press tours of the summer, with Zendaya’s Greek mythology-inspired wardrobe drawing constant comparisons to the character she plays.
Beyond the red carpet, Zendaya’s work on ‘The Odyssey‘ has already generated serious buzz behind the scenes. Nolan reportedly singled her out during filming as the one actor who consistently delivered exactly what he wanted, a distinction that did not go unnoticed by her co-stars.
Zendaya addressed that praise directly during an interview with ScreenRant’s Liam Crowley, laughing off the attention the comment received. Asked whether she remembered the specific day Nolan gave her that reaction, she said she initially had no idea how significant that kind of feedback actually was on his set.
The reaction from her co-stars only added to the story. Both Matt Damon and Tom Holland have reportedly joked about never receiving that same level of praise from Nolan themselves, turning it into an ongoing bit of behind the scenes lore throughout the shoot.
It also helps that the casting itself came together in an unusually personal way, with Holland playing a direct role in connecting Zendaya to the project before she even knew she was being considered for the part. That behind-the-scenes story has only added to the sense that this role means something different for her compared to past projects.

With ‘The Odyssey’ set to open in theaters on July 17, the Paris photocall marks one of the final major stops before audiences get to see the finished performance for themselves. Between the mythological wardrobe choices and the growing praise from her director, expectations for Zendaya’s Athena are only climbing higher by the day.
