Before the first Knives Out movie came out in 2019, Rian Johnson said he wanted to make sequels with Benoit Blanc solving more mysteries. On March 31, 2021, it was reported that Netflix bought the rights to two sequels for over $400 million.

In June 2022, Johnson explained that Knives Out 3 was just a working title. He said he wanted each film to have its own title, inspired by Agatha Christie’s books. Johnson also mentioned he wanted future movies to have subtitles like A Benoit Blanc Mystery.

Filming took place at Warner Bros. Studios in Leavesden, starting on June 10, 2024, in London, with Steve Yedlin as the cinematographer and Nathan Johnson composing the music.

Glenn Close revealed on June 19, 2024, that she had both COVID-19 and RSV, which meant she could only film for two days at that point. Filming ended on August 17, 2024.

Rian Johnson has said he plans to make more movies in the Knives Out series. In September 2022, both he and Daniel Craig confirmed they would continue making more films as long as they were both involved.
