The land of Oz doesn’t look so magical anymore. Universal Pictures dropped the final trailer for Wicked: For Good on Wednesday, September 24, and it shows Glinda and Elphaba going from friends to bitter rivals.

In one of the most tense moments, Ariana Grande’s Glinda slams her wand against Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba and her broom during a heated fight on the yellow brick road. “I’m a public figure now, people expect me to…” Glinda says, before Elphaba cuts in with a sarcastic “Fly?” Glinda fires back with “Be encouraging!”

The trailer also shows hints of big musical numbers. Fans can hear pieces of Glinda’s “Thank Goodness” and Elphaba’s dramatic anthem “No Good Deed.” Another key moment is a wedding between Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey, and Glinda, which gets ruined by a herd of animals. Michelle Yeoh’s Madame Morrible quickly blames Elphaba, shouting, “This is the work of the Wicked Witch!”

There are softer moments too. Elphaba and Fiyero are shown in an embrace as they float in the air during their love song “As Long as You’re Mine.” Glinda also gets her bubble for the first time and declares, “I’m obsess-u-lated!” in her usual bubbly way. And the two friends even share lighter times as they repeat their Ozdust Ballroom dance moves with the Wizard, played by Jeff Goldblum.

The trailer also gives fans a closer look at familiar characters. The Cowardly Lion, Tin Man, and Scarecrow all make appearances, teasing their connection to Dorothy’s journey. In one quick shot, Elphaba is seen facing the Scarecrow just before they join Dorothy. Viewers even get a look at Elphaba’s sister, Nessa Rose, played by Marissa Bode, who floats in the air as her sparkling shoes turn into the famous ruby slippers.

Wicked: For Good is directed by Jon M. Chu and written by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. It continues the story from 2024’s Wicked and adapts the second half of the Broadway stage musical.

The movie picks up years after the first film. Elphaba is now known across Oz as the Wicked Witch of the West and lives on the run while still fighting for animal rights.

Glinda has stepped into her new role as Glinda the Good and has become a public figure watched closely by the Wizard and Madame Morrible. But their bond is tested as Dorothy Gale suddenly arrives from Kansas, creating chaos that changes Oz forever.

Universal Pictures first announced plans for the Wicked movies back in 2012, with longtime stage producer Marc Platt also on board.

The project faced years of delays, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 Hollywood strikes, before production finally wrapped in early 2024. Wicked: For Good is now set to hit theaters in the United States on November 21.
