Fans of Star Trek might not have to wait much longer for the next installment of the franchise.

The upcoming series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, is set to introduce a new generation of cadets in the 32nd century, continuing the far-future timeline first explored in Star Trek: Discovery.

While Paramount+ has kept details under wraps, actor and comedian Gina Yashere, who plays half-Klingon, half-Jem’Hadar Starfleet officer and instructor Lura Thok, may have accidentally hinted at a release date.

On Instagram, Yashere shared a photo of herself in full prosthetics and wrote, “The prosthetic department at @startrek are a bunch of geniuses. See you in January 2026.” She later updated the caption to read, “early in 2026.” If accurate, the show could become the first Star Trek series to debut in January, giving fans a reason to start the year with new adventures in space.

Starfleet Academy was created by Gaia Violo for Paramount+ and will be the 12th Star Trek series in Alex Kurtzman’s expanded Star Trek Universe.

It follows the first new class of Starfleet cadets in over a century as they train to become officers. The series stars Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, Kerrice Brooks, George Hawkins, and Bella Shepard as cadets, alongside Holly Hunter, Zoë Steiner, Robert Picardo, Tig Notaro, and Oded Fehr.

The show has been in production for some time. Paramount+ officially ordered the series in March 2023, with Kurtzman and Noga Landau serving as showrunners. Filming for the first season ran from August 2024 to February at Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada. The first season is expected to include 10 episodes, and a second season is already in development.

Yashere’s post has sparked excitement among fans, who are eager to see a new Star Trek era unfold. With its focus on cadets and a fresh cast, Starfleet Academy promises to bring both new stories and familiar Star Trek themes to the screen.
