‘Stranger Things’ Season 5: Volume 1 Episode Runtimes Finally Revealed
Ross Duffer, one of the creators of Stranger Things, has cleared up the confusion about how long the episodes in the fifth and final season will actually be.
After months of rumors claiming every episode would be over an hour and a half long, Duffer finally shared the real runtimes for the first four episodes in a video on his Instagram.
The season will kick off with The Crawl, which runs for one hour and eight minutes. Episode two, titled The Vanishing of _____, is 54 minutes long. The third episode, The Turnbow Trap, comes in at one hour and six minutes, while episode four, Sorcerer, is the longest so far at one hour and twenty-three minutes.
- Episode 1 – 1 hour & 8 minutes
- Episode 2 – 54 minutes
- Episode 3 – 1 hour & 6 minutes
- Episode 4 – 1 hour & 23 minutes
In his video, Duffer also shared a few thoughts about the new season. He said The Crawl is his “favorite” and “most eventful first episode since Season 1.” About episode two, he added that it features “the craziest cold open we’ve ever done. One of the sequences we’re most proud of this season.”
Duffer described The Turnbow Trap as “the most classic Stranger Things-y episode of the season,” and revealed that filmmaker Frank Darabont came out of retirement to direct it. He called episode four “MASSIVE — as big as any finale we’ve ever done, and the most logistically insane shoot of our lives.”
Stranger Things 5 will be released in three parts on Netflix. The first two volumes will arrive on November 26 and December 25, followed by the finale on December 31. The new season will include eight episodes in total and is being produced by the Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen.
Most of the main cast is returning for the final chapter, including Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, and Brett Gelman. Amybeth McNulty, who appeared in the previous season, has been promoted to the main cast. Linda Hamilton will also join the show as a newcomer.
The story picks up in the fall of 1987, one year after the events of Season 4. The group reunites to hunt down Vecna after the rifts open across Hawkins.
Things get even more dangerous when the military shows up and begins searching for Eleven. As the anniversary of Will Byers’ disappearance draws near, the friends face one last deadly battle to save their town—and possibly the world.
Stranger Things has been one of Netflix’s biggest hits since it first premiered in 2016, and fans have been waiting years for this final season. Based on Duffer’s comments, it sounds like the team is putting everything into making this ending as big as possible.
