Kate McKinnon is joining the cast of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” for its third season as a recurring guest star.

She will play Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. According to the official character description, “Aphrodite can alter her appearance depending on the beholder” and “must be sure that Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) respects the power and importance of love before she agrees to offer aid on his quest.”

McKinnon is best known for her time on “Saturday Night Live,” where she was a cast member from 2012 to 2022.

She received ten Emmy nominations during her career on the show and won twice. She has also appeared in movies like “Bombshell” (2019), “Yesterday” (2019), “The Spy Who Dumped Me” (2018), and the 2016 “Ghostbusters” reboot. More recently, she played Weird Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” (2023) and Carole Baskin in Peacock’s limited series “Joe vs. Carole” (2022).

McKinnon will also appear in Andrew Stanton’s upcoming Hulu sci-fi movie “In the Blink of an Eye.” She is represented by CAA, Artists First, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.

The “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series is based on the middle-grade books by Rick Riordan. Riordan created the show alongside Jonathan E. Steinberg, who is the showrunner with Dan Shotz.

Other executive producers include Steinberg and Shotz, Rick and Rebecca Riordan, Craig Silverstein, Bert Salke, and members of the Gotham Group, including Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg, as well as James Bobin, Jim Rowe, Albert Kim, Jason Ensler, and Sarah Watson. The news was first reported by Variety.

Along with McKinnon, the main cast includes Walker Scobell as Percy, Leah Sava Jeffries, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, and Daniel Diemer. The series first came out on Disney+ in 2023, and Season 2 is set to premiere on December 10. Season 3, which will follow the book “The Titan’s Curse,” is currently being filmed in Vancouver.
