Emma Stone’s new film Bugonia is hosting a very unusual screening in Los Angeles. Fans who want to attend the event must be bald or shave their heads to match Stone’s character in the movie.

The screening will take place at the Culver Theater, and a barber will be on-site to shave anyone who wants to participate. The event is 18+ and tickets are first-come, first-served.

The movie is directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and marks his fourth collaboration with Stone, following The Favourite (2018), Poor Things (2023), and Kinds of Kindness (2024). Bugonia is an absurdist black comedy in which Stone plays a powerful CEO who is kidnapped by two young men who believe she is an alien trying to destroy Earth.

Other cast members include Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone.

Earlier this year, Stone spoke about shaving her head for the role. She told Vogue that while it was an empowering experience, it was also personal. She recalled breaking down in tears before the haircut, thinking about her mother, Krista Stone, who had shaved her head during cancer treatment. “No better feeling in the world,” Stone said of the experience.

Bugonia is set to be released in U.S. theaters on October 24 by Focus Features. The film had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on August 28. The project is a remake of the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet! and was developed as a co-production between Ireland, South Korea, and the United States.

The movie’s production began in 2020, with director Jang Joon-hwan originally attached. Ari Aster joined as a producer, and Lanthimos took over as director in 2024. Filming took place in England, Georgia, and Greece. Focus Features picked up the film for distribution at the Cannes Film Festival.

This kind of immersive screening is a bold and creative way to get fans involved. It’s rare to see a movie ask audiences to take such a step to connect with a character. What do you think about this head-shaving requirement for Bugonia? Would you do it to see a movie? Share your thoughts in the comments.
