Stephen King has praised the new political thriller A House of Dynamite while taking a pointed jab at President Donald Trump. The Netflix film, directed by Kathryn Bigelow and written by Noah Oppenheim, explores a tense scenario where the U.S. government responds to a nuclear missile launched by an unknown enemy.

The film features an ensemble cast, including Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke. It premiered in the main competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on September 2, where it was nominated for the Golden Lion.

It was released in select UK cinemas on October 3, hit U.S. theaters on October 10, and became available for global streaming on Netflix starting October 24.

King shared his reaction to the film on social media, writing: “A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE (Netflix): Terrifying, especially given the unprincipled, waffling nitwit now occupying the White House…or what remains of it.” With this comment, King was not just praising the movie’s tension and storytelling but also using the film’s apocalyptic political scenario to draw a parallel to the current political climate.

By calling the sitting president a “waffling nitwit,” King implied that the film’s fictional crisis mirrors real-life concerns about leadership and decision-making in government.

A House of Dynamite has been noted for its suspenseful pacing and high-stakes plot, and King’s comments highlight how fiction can reflect contemporary anxieties about politics and national security.
