Sydney Sweeney Has a Perfect Response to Playing a James Bond Girl

Sydney Sweeney is in the spotlight again as she promotes her new movie, Christy. The 2025 sports drama tells the story of Christy Martin, one of America’s most famous female boxers in the 1990s, and her survival after a violent attack by her husband in 2010.

Sweeney plays Martin, and the film is directed by David Michôd, who co-wrote it with Mirrah Foulkes. Christy premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5 and will be released in theaters on November 7 through Black Bear Pictures.

While talking to Variety, Sweeney was asked about rumors that she might play the next James Bond girl.

The speculation comes as Amazon, which now controls the franchise, prepares to launch Bond 26, the first 007 film without Daniel Craig. Sweeney has connections to Amazon through her new lingerie line and her appearance at Jeff Bezos’ wedding in June, which added fuel to the gossip.

When asked directly, Sweeney gave an honest and playful answer. “I can’t. [Seven-second pause.] I don’t know. [Ten-second pause.] To be honest, I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise, and I’m excited and curious to see what they do with it,” she said.

She then considered whether she would like the role. “Depends on the script,” she said. “I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.”

Fans are eagerly waiting for the next chapter in the Bond franchise. Daniel Craig left the role after No Time to Die, and a new actor will take over as 007.

Amazon MGM Studios has brought on Denis Villeneuve to direct the upcoming film. Villeneuve, known for his work on the Dune trilogy, said in a statement, “Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007. I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I’m a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he’s sacred territory.”

He added, “This is a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honor. Amy [Pascal], David [Heyman], and I are absolutely thrilled to bring him back to the screen. Thank you to Amazon MGM Studios for their trust.” Villeneuve is currently filming Dune: Part Three, which will be released on December 18, 2026, and he is expected to start working on Bond 26 soon after.

With Sweeney expressing curiosity and enthusiasm for the franchise and Villeneuve taking the helm for a new era of James Bond, fans have plenty to look forward to.
