DC’s animated series Creature Commandos, created by James Gunn, is getting a special free streaming event on YouTube to celebrate its first anniversary.

The show originally premiered on HBO Max on December 5, 2024, kicking off the reboot of the DC Universe under Gunn and Peter Safran.

DC announced on social media that the marathon will air on its official YouTube channel, with all seven episodes available to watch. The event is scheduled for December 22 from 1 to 7 pm and December 23 from 3 to 9 pm. Fans who want to catch up on the start of the new DC Universe, especially those who enjoyed Superman, will find it a perfect opportunity to see how Chapter One: Gods and Monsters began.

Creature Commandos follows a team of monsters working for the U.S. government’s Task Force M, led by Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis. The team includes The Bride (Indira Varma), G.I. Robot, Weasel (both voiced by Sean Gunn), Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao), and Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo). The series received high praise from critics and audiences alike, scoring 95% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 78% from viewers.

The show was produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, with all seven episodes of the first season written by James Gunn. Dean Lorey served as showrunner, while Yves “Balak” Bigerel was the supervising director. Bobbypills and Studio IAM handled the animation. Since its release, Creature Commandos has been successful, becoming the third-most-watched show in its first full week on Max, according to Luminate, with 22 million minutes viewed.

The series is set after the events of Peacemaker’s first season and introduces fans to Amanda Waller’s black ops monster team led by Rick Flag Sr. The show was well-received for its humor, animation, and voice acting, earning generally favorable reviews on Metacritic with a score of 74 out of 100. Due to its success, a second season has been confirmed, though a release date has not yet been announced.

This YouTube marathon is a chance for fans and newcomers to experience the beginning of DC’s new universe for free. “Creature Commandos marks an auspicious debut for the DCU,” according to Rotten Tomatoes’ critics’ consensus.
