You Won’t Believe Which Film Quentin Tarantino Thinks Is a True Masterpiece
In a recent interview on Bret Easton Ellis’s podcast, Tarantino opened up about his favorite animated films of the 21st century. He singled out Pixar’s Toy Story 3 as a standout. “Toy Story 3 is a masterpiece and was my favourite movie of that year,” he said, referring to the 2010 hit that brought many viewers to tears. To Tarantino, the film isn’t just a great cartoon—it is “magnificent” storytelling and one of the best movies he has ever seen.
His admiration for Toy Story 3 is so strong that he has avoided the fourth installment. Tarantino feels the third movie wrapped up Woody and Buzz’s story perfectly. He has said he refuses to watch the fourth film because the ending of the third is “the greatest end of a trilogy I had ever witnessed,” even comparing it to the classic western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
Tarantino’s love of family-friendly media has grown since becoming a father. He shared in an interview with Empire that he spends a lot of time watching children’s shows with his young son. “I actually do like Peppa Pig; I watch it a lot… I’ll say it – Peppa Pig is the greatest British import of this decade,” he admitted with a smile.
When it comes to movies, he also introduced his son to long-form storytelling with the Illumination sequel Despicable Me 2. Tarantino said he watched it in small sections over a week and found the experience “fascinating” as a way to teach his child about cinema.
Beyond children’s films, Tarantino has praised more experimental projects that use animation or visual effects in unique ways. He has praised Gaspar Noé’s Enter the Void for its psychedelic visuals and heavy digital manipulation. He is also a fan of Team America: World Police, appreciating how the puppet-based satire tells a sharp political story.
Professionally, Tarantino is in a period of transition. He scrapped The Movie Critic, which was supposed to be his tenth and final film, and has instead focused on writing. He recently completed the script for David Fincher’s sequel, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, starring Brad Pitt and continuing the world of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Tarantino has also stayed busy as a theater owner. He recently oversaw a major renovation of the Vista Theatre in Los Angeles and has hosted exclusive 70mm screenings. He continues to promote his non-fiction books on film history and remains active in podcasts and interviews.
While he has suggested that his final film may not be made until his son is at least six years old, Tarantino’s influence on Hollywood continues to be felt through his writing, theater work, and outspoken opinions on cinema.
