Brett Ratner Addresses Epstein Photo Controversy for the First Time
Brett Ratner is responding after his name surfaced again in connection with Jeffrey Epstein. The director, who is promoting his new documentary, Melania, says the situation has been misunderstood from the start.
Ratner spoke to Fox News after newly released government documents included a photo showing him with Epstein and two women whose faces were blurred. He said the image is from around twenty years ago and was taken at a public event he attended with his girlfriend at the time. According to Ratner, the moment meant nothing to him and was not memorable.
He told the outlet that he never had a personal relationship with Epstein and barely knew who he was back then. He explained that they were not friends and never spent time together. Ratner said that when people later asked him about Epstein, his honest answer was usually that he did not think he knew him at all. As he put it, I didn’t have a personal relationship with him.
Ratner also clarified that the woman next to him in the photo was his fiancée, who had invited him to the event. He said he simply showed up with her and happened to be caught in the picture. Looking back, he called the situation crazy and horrible, adding that people can easily get pulled into something they had no real part in.
His name appeared among many others in the document release, which was made public by the U.S. government. The files included references to several famous figures, but there has been no evidence presented that Ratner committed any crime. Many of the names listed were based on unverified tips or mentions rather than proven actions.

While the controversy has resurfaced, Ratner appears focused on his return to filmmaking. His documentary Melania, which follows Melania Trump in the days leading up to the 2025 inauguration, has drawn major attention.
According to box office reports, the film earned over seven million dollars in its opening weekend and played in more than 1,700 theaters. Amazon MGM Studios reportedly paid forty million dollars for the documentary, making it one of the most expensive ever produced.
Ratner is also quietly preparing his next steps. He has confirmed that early development work has begun on Rush Hour 4, a project that has been discussed for years. He is also rumored to be planning another documentary centered on the Abraham Accords from Donald Trump’s first term. These projects mark his first major return to Hollywood after nearly a decade away.
Whether audiences will fully embrace his comeback remains to be seen, but Ratner seems determined to move forward and leave the controversy behind.
