Shia LaBeouf was involved in a violent fight during Mardi Gras in New Orleans, and a new video shows just how bad things got before police stepped in. According to video footage shared online and details from a police report, the actor was beaten during a street altercation in the city’s French Quarter. In the clip, LaBeouf can be seen trying to get back up after being knocked to the ground.

One man stands over him, telling him to stay down, before throwing two hard punches to his face. The man is also heard shouting that they were going to beat the f* out* of him and telling LaBeouf to calm down. Another person then moves into the frame, backing up the threat.

Police say LaBeouf was later taken to a local hospital for treatment. His injuries were not publicly detailed. After he was released, officers arrested him and booked him on two counts of simple battery.

Investigators say the incident started earlier at a bar in the French Quarter. A staff member reportedly got into an argument with LaBeouf inside the bar and escorted him out. Once outside, police claim the actor began hitting the employee with closed fists.

The police report states that LaBeouf then walked away for a short time but came back acting even more aggressively. Witnesses told officers that several people had to hold him down to stop the situation from getting worse.

When bystanders eventually let him go, hoping he would leave, police allege that LaBeouf immediately went after the same worker again, hitting them in the upper body. He then allegedly punched a second person in the nose. At that point, people restrained him again and held him until police arrived around 12:45 AM.

This is not the first time LaBeouf has made headlines for troubling behavior. In 2017, he was arrested in Savannah, Georgia, on charges including public drunkenness and disorderly conduct. He later entered court-ordered rehab and has since spoken publicly about his struggles with alcohol and his attempts to change his life.

Despite those efforts, this Mardi Gras incident suggests those issues may still be present. In recent years, LaBeouf has mostly worked in independent films and international projects. He recently finished Henry Johnson, a prison drama directed by David Mamet, and appeared in the thriller Salvable with Toby Kebbell.

He is also developing a film called Angel of Death with director Jerzy Skolimowski, a project LaBeouf reportedly helped write. On top of that, he is set to appear in The Phoenician Scheme, a new film directed by Wes Anderson that also stars Tom Hanks and Benedict Cumberbatch.
