Justin Timberlake is taking strong legal action to stop the public from seeing body camera footage from his 2024 arrest. The 45-year-old singer recently filed a petition in the Suffolk County Supreme Court, saying that releasing the video would cause irreparable harm to his reputation and personal life.

The arrest happened on June 18, 2024, in Sag Harbor after Timberlake left the American Hotel. Police stopped him on suspicion of DWI. According to reports, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and he refused to take a chemical test multiple times.

Timberlake has said that he had only one martini before trying to follow friends home in his BMW. The case later ended in September 2024 with a plea deal for a lesser charge of driving while impaired.

He paid a fine, completed 25 hours of community service, and issued a public service announcement about the dangers of impaired driving, as required by the plea deal. In court, Timberlake’s lawyers, Edward Burke Jr. and Michael J. Del Piano, argued that the video contains highly personal information that has nothing to do with public oversight.

“The footage shows intimate details about Mr. Timberlake’s family and medical history that should remain private,” they wrote. They added that making the footage public would expose Timberlake to unnecessary harassment and ridicule, while providing no real benefit to the public.

The petition was prompted after the Sag Harbor Village Police Department received requests for the footage under the Freedom of Information Law. Timberlake is asking for an emergency stay to stop the release of the video and a permanent court order that would require a judge’s approval before it could ever be shared.

Despite the ongoing legal issues, Timberlake has continued to focus on his career. He recently wrapped up his Forget Tomorrow World Tour, which traveled through major international cities following the release of his sixth studio album, Everything I Thought It Was.

The tour was known for its high-tech production, special effects, and signature floating stage. Fans and critics praised the performances, and the tour was a commercial success, further cementing Timberlake’s status as one of the world’s top entertainers.

In addition to his music, Timberlake is planning future film projects and other creative endeavors. His fight to block the release of the body camera footage highlights the delicate balance between public curiosity and a celebrity’s right to privacy.
