‘Peaky Blinders’ Sequel Series Set in the 1950s Reveals Huge Production Update
Filming has officially started on the highly anticipated 1950s sequel series set in the Peaky Blinders universe. Production kicked off this week in Stoke-on-Trent, with crews from Kudos, the team behind This Town and SAS Rogue Heroes, shooting in Burslem on March 4 and 5, according to local sources and on-set reports.
The historic Queen’s Theatre in Burslem served as the main hub for the first day of filming. Its vintage interior provided the perfect backdrop for the mid-century setting. The following day, crews moved outside to nearby Jenkins Street, where period-accurate cars and set designs transformed the area into post-war Birmingham. Residents got a rare glimpse of what the city looked like in the 1950s, one local told reporters.
Stoke-on-Trent has long been a favorite location for Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, with parts of the original series previously shot at Middleport Pottery and the Queen’s Theatre. Both locations, closed for years, are now back in use to bring the Shelby family’s story to life once again.
This new sequel series moves the timeline forward to 1953, after the events of the Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, which is set during World War II. The official description from production listings calls the project “Peaky 1954” and describes a Birmingham rising from the devastation of the Blitz. The story will follow the next generation of Shelbys as they compete to dominate the city’s massive reconstruction, a world filled with danger, ambition, and high stakes.
Several cast members have already been confirmed, including Cal O’Driscoll, Fintan Shevlin, and Jacob Wright. The project will consist of two six-episode seasons, with the first expected to premiere on Netflix in mid-to-late 2027.
In the meantime, fans won’t have to wait long to see the Shelby family on screen again. Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is set to premiere globally on Netflix on March 20, 2026.
From what we’ve seen, this 1950s sequel promises to capture the same gritty intensity fans love about the original series while exploring a new era in Birmingham’s history. Personally, I’m excited to see how the younger Shelbys take control in a city still rebuilding from war. What do you think about this next chapter for the Shelby family?
