Adam Scott says he already knows where Severance is heading, including how the story will eventually finish.

Scott is also one of the executive producers on the Apple TV+ series, so he is involved in creative discussions with the writers, including creator Dan Erickson. He explained that he stays closely connected to the writing process and likes being fully informed about the story.

He said he is very excited about the next season and what is coming next for the show. “It’s going to be great. There are so many surprises. I can’t wait to shoot it,” Scott said.

He also confirmed that Ben Stiller will not be directing this time, but made it clear that Stiller is still heavily involved in the project. Scott added that the cast and crew are eager to return after a long break between seasons. He said they have not worked together in over two years and everyone misses each other.

Scott spoke about how important Severance has been in his career. He said the role felt like something he had been working toward for a long time. He also shared that landing the part took effort, since the production team wanted to be sure he was the right fit for such a big project.

Looking back, Scott said he was only required to audition once for Severance. He joked that doing too many auditions can sometimes make things worse rather than better.

Before Severance, Scott said he wanted to move away from purely comedic roles after Parks and Recreation ended. He pushed for more dramatic work and mentioned Big Little Lies as a project he strongly wanted to join. He said he had to audition multiple times and prove himself before getting cast.

He described Severance as a rare opportunity because of its unusual story and complex character work. In his words, it felt like a complete and challenging role that brought together everything he had learned over his career.

Scott also talked about the now-famous “transition” scenes in the series, where his character switches between different mental states. He said it took a lot of testing and practice to make those moments feel natural. According to him, the team experimented many times before finding the final version that worked.

Outside of Severance, Scott also spoke about his recent work in horror. He has appeared in the film Hokum, which he described as genuinely scary. He said he enjoys horror films that are not only frightening but also strong as full stories on their own.

He also reflected on how Severance has connected with audiences. He said the show gained attention during a time when many people were adjusting to changes in work and daily life. He believes the series connects with viewers because it mixes a strange concept with real emotional themes.

Scott added that mystery is an important part of the show’s appeal. He said not everything should be explained, and leaving space for audience interpretation makes the experience stronger.

At the end of the interview, Scott said he is not worried about being typecast because of Severance. He feels the role is complex enough that it does not limit him going forward.

Adam Scott is currently being honored at Canneseries, where he is receiving the Canal+ Icon Award, marking another major moment in his career.

It will be interesting to see how the show moves forward now that Scott already knows how it all ends. Do you think keeping the ending secret makes the series better, or should viewers know more? Share your thoughts in the comments.
