Hajime Isayama, the creator of Attack on Titan, has taken part in a new collaboration with the Star Wars franchise by drawing an official illustration for the upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu. The movie is set to release worldwide on May 22.

The illustration shows the Mandalorian in a battle scene while carrying Grogu. Along with the artwork, a handwritten message from Isayama was shared. Several other manga creators also joined the project with their own comments, including George Morikawa, Oh! great, Ken Wakui, and Atsushi Ohkubo.

The film continues the story of the Star Wars universe, focusing on the Mandalorian, a bounty hunter, and Grogu, a young character with strong Force powers.

Isayama also shared his personal memory of discovering Star Wars and what it meant to him. He said, “My first encounter with Star Wars was when I was shown Episodes 6 → 5 → 4 during a homestay in Idaho. The biological feel of mold and dust drifting inside inorganic spaceships—that contrast was what gave me a sense of real life within Star Wars. Above all, Grogu is just too cute, I can’t get enough of him.”

Other creators also shared their thoughts on the franchise.

George Morikawa spoke about how Star Wars influenced him over the years and said the films still give him inspiration whenever he watches them in theaters.

Oh! great focused on the visual side of the series. He highlighted the many iconic machines and designs that left a strong impact on him as a child and continue to influence his manga work today. He also said he wishes new viewers could experience the series for the first time again.

Ken Wakui reacted with excitement about the new film, pointing out how much he enjoys the character relationships in Star Wars, especially the master-student dynamics. He said he is very excited to watch the new story.

Atsushi Ohkubo shared his love for lightsabers, especially blue ones, and said they played a big role in shaping how he viewed visual style in stories. He also expressed support for Grogu and even imagined the character using a lightsaber in the future.

Hajime Isayama is best known for Attack on Titan, which ran from 2009 to 2021. The manga became a global hit and was later adapted into an anime series. The anime finished with a final set of special episodes that concluded the story, followed by a film version with updated visuals and sound.

The franchise continues to remain active, with its final movie release performing strongly in theaters and later arriving on streaming platforms. Producers have also hinted that more projects and collaborations are still in development.

This is a fun crossover between two very different but hugely popular worlds. It also shows how Star Wars continues to influence creators across different generations. What do you think about Hajime Isayama drawing for Star Wars? Share your thoughts in the comments.
