‘Stranger Things: Tales From ’85’ Renewed for Season 2 Despite Mixed Reviews, New Teaser Released
The animated Stranger Things spin-off Tales From ’85 has already secured a second season, even as viewers are still watching the first batch of episodes.
The streaming platform also shared a statement from showrunner Eric Robles. He said, “Working on Season 1 has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Now that it’s out in the world, seeing fans connect with these characters—whether they’ve loved them for years or are just meeting them for the first time—has been truly special. I’m excited to continue the journey. We’re thrilled to return to the winter of ’85 for season two. The Hawkins Investigators Club is back, and a new paranormal threat has emerged from the town’s abandoned silver mines. I can’t wait for fans to discover where this entity and the mysterious blue flower we last saw blooming in the Upside Down at the end of Season 1 take our young heroes.”
The series launched on April 23, and is the first major animated expansion of the Stranger Things world directly on Netflix. It follows the original group of characters in a new animated form and builds on the events of the main series. While the franchise has expanded before through games and comics, this is the first big on-screen spin-off on the platform.

Season 1 has received a mixed reaction from audiences. Some viewers enjoyed the return to the Stranger Things universe in animated form, while others felt the show did not fully meet expectations. Even with this divided response, the series still managed to gain attention in Netflix’s global charts shortly after release.
Reports also suggest that Netflix planned ahead for a second season. This fits with the company’s usual strategy for animated shows, where multiple seasons are often greenlit early to keep production schedules steady. It also helps avoid long gaps between releases, which can happen with complex animation projects.
Early information about Season 2 points to a continuation of the story left at the end of Season 1. The finale ended with the group stopping a major threat in Hawkins, but a new danger was teased in the final moments. A strange growth connected to the Upside Down appears, hinting that something more dangerous is developing.
Showrunner Eric Robles has confirmed that this new mystery will be central to the next season. The story will continue with the Hawkins group facing a new paranormal threat tied to the events of the first season.
With Season 2 now confirmed and a release window aimed at late 2026, the series is set to return just before Halloween, according to early reports.
Early renewals like this show Netflix has a lot of confidence in the Stranger Things brand, even when audience reactions are mixed. It is a smart move for planning, but it also puts pressure on the next season to improve on the first. What do you think about the show getting renewed so quickly despite mixed reception?
