‘Euphoria’ Fans Stunned by “Terribly Disturbing” Scene—Some Say They Had to Fast Forward
Some TV shows become known not just for their storylines, but also for the strong reactions they create online. In recent years, social media has become a place where viewers react in real time, sharing shock, praise, or even frustration while watching new episodes as they air.
One show that often finds itself at the center of this kind of conversation is Euphoria. According to viewer reactions shared across platforms like Reddit and reported in entertainment coverage, the latest season has once again sparked intense discussion after a recent episode aired on Sunday, May 3.
The episode introduced a new character named Kitty, played by Anna Van Patten. Within the story, Kitty works at a strip club where Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, is also involved as part of a difficult situation in her life. The club setting becomes the backdrop for one of the most talked-about moments of the episode.
In the scene, Kitty is brought into a private room with a group of men. The situation escalates in a way that left many viewers unsettled. Rue watches parts of what is happening through security monitors in the club, adding another layer to the moment as she looks on in shock.
At one point, after the encounter, Rue asks Kitty if she is being forced into her work. Kitty, who appears visibly shaken, responds by saying, “I like to dance.” The line has been widely discussed by viewers who felt it added confusion and emotional weight to the scene.
After the episode aired, social media quickly filled with reactions. One Reddit user wrote, “The scene with the stripper … and the group of men was just so terribly disturbing and sad.” Another viewer said, “It made me feel sick.” A third person added, “I had to fast forward through it, too hard to watch.” These reactions were shared widely and helped push the episode into trending discussions.
Not all responses were negative. Some viewers defended the creative choice, saying it was meant to reflect a harsh reality within the show’s world. One Reddit user argued that showing difficult situations was important for the story, writing that it was a “necessary narrative device for the wider story.”
Anna Van Patten also spoke about filming the scene in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. She explained that while the material was difficult, she felt supported during production. “I’m fortunate in that I’ve never been in Kitty’s situation, but yeah, it was tough. It’s sad and it’s dark, but it serves a purpose in the greater story,” she said.
She also added, “And luckily, I had so many people there to support me through it. There was an intimacy coordinator, and you’re surrounded by the crew and the cast, and everyone was being very delicate. So, I felt like I could go to a darker place and put myself in Kitty’s shoes. Then I went home and took a shower and washed it off.”
The episode has become one of the most talked-about parts of the season so far. Some fans say the series is pushing boundaries more than ever, while others believe that is exactly what the show has always aimed to do.
