Why Soldier Boy Joined Forces With Homelander, According to ‘The Boys’ Showrunner Eric Kripke
The Boys Season 5 has taken a big turn after episode 6, with Soldier Boy making a shocking decision that directly affects Homelander’s future. The information comes from showrunner Eric Kripke, who discussed the storyline in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes.
In the episode, Soldier Boy gives Homelander V-1, a move that raises a lot of questions since it effectively makes him even more dangerous. On the surface, the decision seems strange, especially given how unstable Homelander already is. Soldier Boy even tells Homelander that he doesn’t deserve to live forever, which makes his later choice even more confusing for viewers.
Now that Homelander has V-1 in his system, it is expected that he will become even more unpredictable and powerful. The big question moving forward is whether Soldier Boy will regret his decision or continue standing by him as things get worse.
Eric Kripke explained that the choice makes sense from Soldier Boy’s emotional point of view, even if it looks irrational from the outside. He said, “Love makes you do crazy things.”
Kripke also talked about how Soldier Boy has been struggling with his feelings toward Homelander. He explained that Soldier Boy has been unsure whether Homelander is his son, his enemy, or something in between. According to Kripke, this emotional confusion plays a big role in his decision.

He said, “Soldier Boy’s been wavering lately about who is this person? Is this person actually my son? Is this person an enemy? Is this person a friend?”
Kripke added that Soldier Boy’s past relationship with Stormfront also influences his thinking. He believes Soldier Boy feels that she would have supported Homelander receiving V-1, which pushes him further toward making that choice.
He explained, “He genuinely believes in his heart that she would want Homelander to have the V1.”
The showrunner also suggested that Soldier Boy’s decision was influenced by seeing familiar reminders of his past, which bring back old emotions and regrets. Because of that, Kripke believes the choice was not fully rational.
He said, “I think if he were to do it again, I’m not sure he would do it that same way.”
Kripke also teased that more background about Soldier Boy will be explored in the upcoming spinoff Vought Rising. The series will look at the early days of Vought and how powerful superheroes were chosen and developed.
He explained that finding strong supes has always been a major goal within Vought’s history. According to Kripke, “Finding the strongest and the most powerful superhero within it is definitely going to be one of her goals.”
With Homelander now more powerful than ever, the series is setting up a dangerous new chapter. Whether Soldier Boy becomes his ally or ends up regretting everything remains one of the biggest questions going into the end of The Boys.
