The Ted franchise is officially continuing in a new direction, with the upcoming sequel series now confirmed under the title TED: THE ANIMATED SERIES. The project is set to stream on Peacock and will continue the story of the famously inappropriate talking teddy bear created by Seth MacFarlane.

The series brings back key original cast members, including Seth MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg, Amanda Seyfried, and Jessica Barth, all reprising their roles from the films. According to early details, the show will expand on the chaotic and comedic world established in the Ted movies while shifting into full animation.

The franchise began with the 2012 film Ted, which starred Mark Wahlberg and introduced audiences to MacFarlane’s foul-mouthed teddy bear. The film became a massive box office hit, earning over $540 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy at the time. A sequel, Ted 2, followed in 2015 but performed more modestly with $216 million globally. The story later continued into a live-action Peacock series released between 2024 and 2026.

Now, the animated version is taking over as the next chapter. In a recent interview with The Playlist, Mark Wahlberg confirmed that production is already well underway and shared details about what fans can expect.

β€œWe already finished recording the first season. It’s so funny. Ted has two kids. It’s bad. We’re like the worst parents in the history of the world. Very unapologetic. It’s hardcore. You need hard funny.”

The series is expected to lean heavily into adult animation, similar in style to Seth MacFarlane’s other long-running shows like Family Guy and American Dad. The humor will remain R-rated, continuing the franchise’s reputation for pushing boundaries.

TED: THE ANIMATED SERIES will act as a direct continuation of the original films and is expected to arrive on Peacock later this year, although an exact release date has not been confirmed.

Seth MacFarlane has also spoken about why the story is moving into animation after the live-action series. In an interview with Collider, he explained that while the character of Ted has endless storytelling potential, production challenges made the transition necessary.

β€œTed is a character-based show. The only thing that hinders us is the expense. To create the bear is a lot of money… You could do 20 seasons of this thing, and it would work, but you have the CGI element that makes it challenging.”

Despite those challenges, MacFarlane emphasized that the world of Ted is far from finished. With the animated format now in place, the franchise is set to continue with fewer limitations and even more outrageous comedy.

For fans of the original films and the Peacock series, the return of Ted in animated form signals another chapter filled with chaotic humor, adult jokes, and the same unpredictable energy that made the character a global hit in the first place.
