Fourth Wing is officially being turned into a TV series at Prime Video, according to an announcement from Amazon MGM Studios during its annual Upfront presentation in New York City. The project is moving forward as a full series adaptation of the popular fantasy book.

The story comes from author Rebecca Yarros, whose novels became a global publishing hit. She will also work on the show as an executive producer. The books have built a huge fan base around the world, mixing fantasy, romance, and intense action in a way that made them very popular with readers.

The series is based on the first book in The Empyrean series. It follows a 20-year-old woman named Violet Sorrengail. She is pushed by her mother into joining a brutal military-style school called Basgiath War College. There, she must compete with hundreds of other recruits who are all trying to become elite dragon riders. The world is dangerous, and only the strongest survive.

The adaptation is being developed by Meredith Averill, who is known for her work on The Haunting of Hill House and Locke & Key. She will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the project.

A major creative team is also attached. Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, who worked on Fallout, will executive produce through Kilter Films. Actor and producer Michael B. Jordan will also executive produce through his company Outlier Society. Other producers include Elizabeth Raposo, Athena Wickham, Liz Pelletier, and Sherryl Clark.

The announcement also revealed that the series has already been renewed for a second season before the first season has even premiered. This shows how confident the studio is in the project and how strong the fan interest already is.

The source of this information comes from Amazon MGM Studios, which shared the news during its official Upfront event.

The success of Fourth Wing as a book series played a big role in getting the adaptation greenlit. The novels became a worldwide hit quickly after release, staying on bestseller lists and gaining a strong online fan community. Readers were drawn to the mix of dragons, war school drama, romance, and high-stakes survival challenges.

There is still no release date yet, and casting has not been announced. The production is still in early stages, and more updates are expected later as development continues.

For now, the project is one of Prime Video’s biggest upcoming fantasy adaptations, joining other major book-to-screen shows on the platform.
