Creators of Netflix Legal Hit Reveal Why the Series Is Ending After Season 5
Netflix has confirmed that The Lincoln Lawyer will officially end after its fifth season. The announcement was made by Netflix on Wednesday, according to the streamer’s official statement. The legal drama has been one of the platform’s steady performers, regularly pulling strong viewing numbers since its debut.
Production for season 5 is already underway in Los Angeles. Netflix had already renewed the show for a fifth season a week before season 4 premiered in February, but now it has been confirmed that this upcoming installment will serve as the final chapter of the series.
The decision comes during a broader shift in Netflix’s lineup, where several long-running shows are being wrapped up. Earlier in May, Netflix also confirmed that The Night Agent would end with its fourth season, signaling a trend of planned conclusions for major titles on the platform.
Based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels, The Lincoln Lawyer follows defense attorney Mickey Haller, played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. The show has built its story around Haller’s cases, personal life, and the moral challenges that come with working in the legal system.
The final season will adapt Resurrection Walk, the seventh book in the series. The story will introduce a major new character, Emi, Mickey’s previously unknown half-sister, played by Cobie Smulders. She approaches him with a case involving a wrongfully convicted woman and asks for his help in securing her release.
Alongside Garcia-Rulfo and Smulders, the series also features Becki Newton, Angus Sampson, and Jazz Raycole. Several new cast members will join the final season, including Amy Aquino, Angela Trimbur, Elpidia Carrillo, Nate Corddry, Tricia Helfer, and Keir O’Donnell. Returning guest stars include Neve Campbell, Krista Warner, Angelica Maria, and Gigi Zumbado.

Co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez addressed the ending in a joint statement. “All good things must come to an end, but thankfully sometimes how they come to an end is up to us,” they said. They added that from the beginning, their goal was not only to tell Mickey Haller’s story but also to give it a proper ending. They described the conclusion as bittersweet but also an opportunity to wrap up character arcs in a meaningful way.
They also thanked Netflix and A+E Studios for allowing them to complete the story as planned. “We are immensely grateful to Netflix and A+E Studios for the opportunity to land this plane the right way,” they said, adding that they are focused on building a satisfying finale for fans.
The series has remained strong in viewership. Season 4 spent four weeks in Netflix’s global top 10 for English-language series, reaching 26.4 million views during that time. In the United States, it also performed well on Nielsen’s streaming rankings, peaking at 2.54 billion minutes watched during its strongest week.
The Lincoln Lawyer is produced by A+E Studios, with David E. Kelley as the creator for television. Ted Humphrey developed the series and serves as co-showrunner alongside Dailyn Rodriguez. Michael Connelly, the author of the original novels, also serves as an executive producer.
With season 5 now confirmed as the final installment, the series is preparing to close out Mickey Haller’s story and bring its long-running legal drama to an end.
