‘The Boys’ Season 5: Valorie Curry Breaks Down Firecracker’s Dark Side — And Why She Still Tried to Humanize Her
Valorie Curry opens up about bringing Firecracker to life in The Boys Season 5, and she is very clear about how she feels about the role and the character’s final arc.
In a recent interview, Curry spoke about playing Firecracker, a character known for extreme views, chaos, and manipulation inside the world of the Seven.
Firecracker, played by Valorie Curry, was introduced as a Supe who mixes political extremism, media influence, and personal revenge. On the surface, she looks like a minor-powered hero with only small electrical sparks, but her real strength comes from her ability to control public opinion and spread fear through her platform and her loyalty to Homelander.
Even though the character is widely seen as hateful and destructive in the story, Curry explained that she still tried to understand her from the inside while acting.
She said, “I feel proud of it as an actor. I feel particularly grateful that we got to wrap up that character who is utterly despicable and a clown, but we got to wrap her up in a way that was very human and very humanizing and meaningful, and to have gotten some response from people that it was meaningful to them, that people empathize with them, or things about her, her journey, and her crisis resonated. That was the most gratifying thing that you can hear. So I feel very satisfied that I can put her to rest and enjoy the finale with everybody else.”
Curry focused on making Firecracker feel real even when her actions were extreme or harmful. The goal was not to excuse the character, but to show how someone like her could still feel human in her own broken way.
In the series, Firecracker becomes part of Homelander’s inner circle after being brought in by Sister Sage. She uses her media platform to spread conspiracy theories and attack Starlight, while also building her own power through fear, loyalty, and manipulation. Her past rivalry with Starlight is also personal, tied to childhood competition and humiliation that turned into long-term resentment.
Her role in Season 5 moves deeper into the darker side of power inside the superhero system. She fully commits to Homelander, even changing her behavior and identity to stay close to him. But her loyalty does not save her in the end.

Firecracker’s story ends in a sudden and violent moment. Homelander, already unstable and paranoid, turns on her after learning she had betrayed his trust. He believes she does not see him as the perfect leader he wants to be seen as. In a fit of rage, he kills her during a confrontation, ending her place in the story without warning.
The final season shows how dangerous loyalty and fear can become in a world ruled by power. Even characters who try to survive by staying close to authority are not safe.
Curry’s comments highlight that, even with a character like Firecracker, the performance was about finding something real inside the chaos.
