Tom Holland is open to seeing Spider-Man appear in an MCU TV project alongside Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. The comments come from Empire magazine, as reported in recent entertainment coverage discussing Spider-Man: Brand New Day and the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe plans.

The idea comes as both characters are set to appear together in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where Peter Parker and Frank Castle will share the screen. Fans have already been curious about how Spider-Man’s lighter tone will mix with the Punisher’s violent and serious style.

But Tom Holland has also started thinking about the opposite situation, where Spider-Man could show up in a Punisher-focused project instead of just the other way around. In the interview, he said he would be open to exploring a different version of the character in a more mature setting.

Holland explained his interest in doing something unexpected with the role. He said, “I would love to pop up in one of [Punisher’s] shows. Let’s see what an R-rated version of Spider-Man looks like. I’m so grateful for Jon for taking the leap and being a part of the film, and I would love to repay the favour.”

This idea connects to the growing relationship between Holland and Bernthal, who have known each other for years. They worked together early in their careers and supported each other while auditioning for Marvel roles. Their friendship has continued over time and now carries into their MCU collaboration.

Bernthal also spoke about his history with Holland in the same interview. He said he was not deeply familiar with the Punisher character at first, and it was actually Holland who encouraged him to explore it more. This helped build their connection long before they appeared together on screen.

The idea of Spider-Man appearing in a Punisher series would represent a big shift in tone for the character. Spider-Man is usually shown in lighter, more family-friendly stories, while the Punisher exists in a much darker and more violent world. Holland’s comments suggest interest in exploring how those two styles could overlap in a controlled way.

The upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day already brings the two characters together in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, and others. It continues Peter Parker’s story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where his identity was erased from the world.

In this new film, Peter Parker is living alone and operating fully as Spider-Man without recognition from the world around him. At the same time, Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, enters his story, creating a tense dynamic between the two heroes.

Holland has also described their on-screen relationship as something that developed naturally during filming. He has said the two characters start off in conflict but eventually form a kind of rivalry that resembles a “big brother and little brother” dynamic.

The film is currently scheduled for release in July as part of the MCU’s next phase.

With Holland now openly suggesting even more crossovers, the future of Spider-Man in Marvel’s darker stories may not be as unlikely as it once seemed.
