The official trailer for The Invite has been released, and it shows a simple dinner night between neighbors turning into something far more awkward and unexpected. The film is directed by Olivia Wilde and is already being described as a mix of uncomfortable comedy and relationship drama.

The story follows Joe and Angela, played by Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde, as they invite their neighbors over for what is supposed to be a normal dinner. But the night does not go as planned, and the situation quickly shifts in a direction they never expected.

The trailer opens in a quiet suburban home where Angela is seen preparing for the evening. Joe comes in and notices she has clearly put a lot of effort into making everything perfect, including setting up food and decorating the space. The tone already suggests that Angela is trying hard to impress their guests, while Joe seems more relaxed and slightly annoyed by the effort.

When the neighbors arrive, played by Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton, things start off polite but quickly become uncomfortable. Joe immediately takes a dislike to Hawk, played by Norton, and even tells Angela that he finds him strange. Angela, on the other hand, seems fascinated by both guests and tries to keep the dinner going smoothly despite the tension.

As the night continues, the conversation becomes more awkward. Joe refuses to fully engage, while Angela tries to keep everything friendly and controlled. The atmosphere slowly shifts from polite dinner talk to something more tense and unpredictable.

At one point in the trailer, Pina, played by Penélope Cruz, makes a comment about how people only get a few meaningful chances in life to connect with others. Joe becomes suspicious of where the conversation is heading, and the tension at the table begins to rise even further.

The situation takes a major turn when the neighbors reveal the real reason for their visit. They are not just there for dinner, but to invite Joe and Angela into something far more personal and unexpected. The trailer suggests that they are proposing a shared romantic or sexual arrangement, which leaves Joe and Angela completely shocked.

The final moments of the trailer show a mix of confusion, awkward reactions, and uncomfortable comedy as both couples try to process what is happening. One brief scene shows Angela and Pina sharing a kiss, while Joe looks increasingly out of place in the situation.

The trailer ends on a quieter note, with Joe opening a bottle of wine while Angela awkwardly says, “Sorry, we don’t um have people over very often.” The line highlights how unprepared the couple is for the situation they find themselves in.

The Invite is directed by Olivia Wilde and written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones. It is based on the Spanish film The People Upstairs by Cesc Gay. The movie is produced by Ben Browning, Megan Ellison, and David Permut, with A24 handling distribution.

The film premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24. It will be released in select U.S. theaters on June 26, followed by a wider nationwide release on July 10.
