Prime Video Breaks Silence After Harassment of ‘Off Campus’ Cast and Their Families Sparks Outrage
Prime Video has spoken out after growing online harassment aimed at the cast of the upcoming series Off Campus and their families. The streaming platform’s team addressed the issue in a message shared on X on Thursday, making it clear that they will not tolerate abusive behavior from fans.
The Off Campus account said the show is meant to bring people together through storytelling, not create conflict online. The team stressed that respect should be shown not only to the actors on screen but also to their private lives off screen.
“The Off Campus community is built on a shared love of storytelling — and on respect for the real people who bring it to life,” the official account wrote. “We ask that everyone in this space extend that respect to our cast and the people in their lives.”
The statement went further, warning that action would be taken against accounts that continue to target the cast or engage in harassment. The team said they would remove such accounts from following their platforms if the behavior continues.
“Accounts that engage in targeted harassment will be removed from following our accounts,” the message added.
The statement comes at a time when online attention around the show’s cast has increased, especially regarding their personal lives. Some fans have been closely following Mika Abdalla, who is set to take a leading role in Season 2 of Off Campus. Recently, Abdalla announced that she and her ex-fiancé Jake Short had ended their engagement.
After the news, old clips of Jake Short were brought back online and widely shared, including one where he referred to Abdalla in harsh language during a podcast moment.
This led to more discussion and arguments among fans online, with many people reacting strongly without knowing the full context. In response, Abdalla and Short released a joint statement to Us Weekly. They said that the clip being shared does not show the reality of their long relationship.
“People making harmful and inaccurate assumptions about our dynamic,” they said. “We were in a loving, respectful relationship for five years, and it’s hurtful to see playful moments dissected in a way that does not reflect the respect and love we had and still have for each other.”
This is not the first time Prime Video has had to step in because of fan behavior around its shows. The platform has previously addressed similar issues with other popular young adult series, including The Summer I Turned Pretty. Ahead of its Season 3 release last summer, the streamer also warned fans that hate speech and bullying directed at cast members and crew would not be accepted.
The recent statement shows a continuing effort by the platform to deal with the pressure that comes with online fandoms and social media attention. As shows grow in popularity, the line between fan discussion and personal attacks has become a concern for streaming services and the people involved in these productions.
For now, the Off Campus team is asking viewers to keep their engagement focused on the story itself and to avoid turning online spaces into places of harassment.
