Millie Bobby Brown Reacts to Henry Cavill’s Sherlock Holmes Spinoff: “We Need More Women on Screen”
Millie Bobby Brown has shared her thoughts on a possible Sherlock Holmes spinoff starring Henry Cavill and Himesh Patel, and her answer may not be what fans of the franchise expected.
In an exclusive interview with ComicBook, Brown was asked about the possibility of Netflix expanding the Enola Holmes universe with a separate series or movie focused on Sherlock Holmes and his partner John Watson. While the idea has gained interest among fans, Brown explained that she would rather see more stories centered around female characters. “I think we need more women on screen, so maybe not,” Brown told ComicBook.
The actress added that she feels audiences have already seen plenty of male-led stories and that the focus should now move toward more women-driven projects. “I think we’ve had that. Men have had their time, and it’s more Enola and more putting women on screen, for me,” Brown said.
Brown’s comments come as the Enola Holmes franchise continues to grow on Netflix. The series, which follows Sherlock Holmes’ younger sister, has become one of the streamer’s most successful movie franchises. Brown not only stars as Enola but also helped develop the project behind the scenes as a producer.
The idea of a Sherlock Holmes and John Watson spinoff became a popular topic among fans because of Henry Cavill’s version of Sherlock and Himesh Patel’s expanded role as Watson. Cavill has appeared throughout the Enola Holmes films as the famous detective, while Patel’s character becomes more involved in the latest chapter.

Although Brown does not appear eager to lead a Sherlock-focused project, Patel was much more open to the possibility. Speaking with ComicBook, the actor said he would be interested in working more with Cavill if Netflix decided to explore that story.
“I haven’t had that conversation, but I’d love to,” Patel said. “Someone send this interview to the higher-ups at Netflix, and let’s see what happens.”
Patel explained that he enjoyed the dynamic between Watson and Sherlock and felt there was still more to explore between the two characters. “Given the way the story unfolds – Sherlock’s missing – we didn’t really get a whole lot of time together, and especially we didn’t really get any time together on set,” Patel said.
The actor also praised Cavill’s performance and said he would enjoy sharing more scenes with him in the future.
“Henry’s done some beautiful work in this movie. People will see that there are some really, really powerful moments with Sherlock, and he’s clearly a fantastic actor and I’d love to dance with him a bit more,” Patel added.
For now, Netflix has not announced any plans for a Sherlock Holmes and John Watson spinoff. Brown also made it clear that the future of Enola Holmes itself depends on several factors, including whether Netflix wants to continue and how audiences respond.
When asked about returning for a possible Enola Holmes 4, Brown told ComicBook that she would be interested if the right people were involved.
“I’m not the decider in that, but we’ll see how this one does. But yeah, I’m there if Netflix is there and Louise is there,” she said.
While a Sherlock-focused project remains uncertain, Brown’s message is clear: she wants the franchise to continue highlighting Enola and other female characters rather than shifting attention back to another male-led detective story.
