‘The Odyssey’ Cast Turned the New York Premiere Red Carpet Into a Greek Runway
‘The Odyssey’ has spent the past several weeks on an international press tour, with stops in London and Paris giving fans plenty of red carpet moments to obsess over ahead of the film’s release. Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic has already generated buzz for its scale and its IMAX Film Camera production, but the film’s ensemble cast has quietly been running its own parallel campaign on the carpet.
That campaign reached its final and arguably biggest stop this week at the film’s New York premiere, held at AMC Lincoln Square. With the cast fully leaning into the Grecian theme of the movie, the event became less of a standard press stop and more of a full-blown fashion moment, with nearly every star finding a way to tie their look back to their character.
Zendaya, who plays the goddess Athena, once again proved she is the reigning queen of method dressing by stepping out in a striking design from French fashion house Matières Fécale.
The strapless white gown featured an illusion feather fabric built into literal wings across the back, along with a plunging neckline and a thigh-high slit, and the brand later revealed on social media that Zendaya’s longtime stylist Law Roach had requested the archival piece nearly two years in advance.
Anne Hathaway, who plays Odysseus’ wife Penelope, brought her own regal energy to the carpet in a custom Prada gown built around a metallic silver chainmail style bodice with an empire waistline.
The actress, who is expecting her third child, paired the flowing ivory pleated skirt with jewelry from Bulgari, for whom she serves as a global ambassador, giving her maternity look a distinctly queenly finish that matched her character’s storyline.

Lupita Nyong’o, who takes on the dual role of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, arrived in a gold lace gown from Nicholas Oakwell Couture featuring a corseted bodice and a thigh-high slit skirt. Her stylist Micaela Erlanger completed the look with a Sabyasachi necklace built around two uncut diamond pendants and a custom Olympia Le-Tan clutch shaped like a book and embroidered with imagery tied directly to Homer’s text.
Charlize Theron, who plays the nymph Calypso, took a more modern approach with a custom Dior minidress from the label’s spring couture collection, featuring sinuous white lines, a plunging neckline, and a bow accent at the waist.
Samantha Morton, who plays the sorceress Circe, leaned into her character’s darker mythology with a deep red and aubergine Maison Margiela dress from the label’s fall collection, paired with a slicked-back hairstyle and smoky red eye makeup.
The men on the carpet kept things comparatively understated but still on theme, with Tom Holland stepping out in a tailored chocolate brown suit for his role as Telemachus, and Elliot Page opting for a sleek black suit alongside his girlfriend.
Matt Damon’s wife Luciana Barroso also joined the Grecian spirit of the night, rounding out a red carpet that fully committed to turning ancient mythology into modern high fashion.
The New York stop marked the finale of the film’s international press tour, following earlier premieres in London and Paris that saw much of the same cast experimenting with similarly mythology-inspired looks. Between the winged bodices, gilded gowns, and Grecian draping, the cast made clear that their commitment to the film’s ancient world extended well past the movie screen and onto the carpet itself.
