Minnesota Shoplifter’s Mugshot Goes Viral After Fans Spot Uncanny Jennifer Lopez Resemblance

A Minnesota woman’s arrest photo has turned into an unexpected internet sensation after social media users noticed how much she looks like Jennifer Lopez. The woman, identified as 35-year-old Cyrena Anne Quast, was arrested in August in connection with an alleged shoplifting case, but it was her mugshot, rather than the arrest itself, that quickly grabbed online attention.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by The Watch MN, Quast was arrested on Aug. 30 after she was accused of stealing two double packs of power tool batteries from a store in Monticello. The batteries were reportedly worth about $580. A store employee allegedly recognized Quast from another theft that had taken place two days earlier and contacted police.

Authorities reportedly questioned Quast about the alleged theft, and she admitted to taking the battery packs, according to the complaint. Online arrest records show that she was booked on a gross misdemeanor theft charge. She was released the following day, according to the Daily Mail.

People quickly pointed out that her face strongly reminded them of Lopez, leading to jokes, memes and plenty of comments about the unexpected celebrity lookalike.

Some social media users said they initially thought the photo actually showed the famous singer and actress. One person joked, “For a moment I thought it was jlo lmao,” while another wrote, “There’s a glitch in the matrix lol.” The comments quickly turned into a full-blown Jennifer Lopez reference, with people bringing up one of her biggest songs.

Lopez’s 2002 hit “Jenny from the Block” became the obvious source of inspiration. Instead of simply calling Quast a Jennifer Lopez lookalike, some users started giving the song a new twist based on the circumstances surrounding the mugshot.

“In prison she’s known as Jenny from D-Block!” one person joked. Another wrote, “Jenny been walking the block too much.” Someone else added, “She’s definitely still Jenny from the block.”

The jokes have helped push the mugshot well beyond the local news story, with users sharing the image across social media and continuing to debate just how close the resemblance really is. Of course, there is no indication that Quast is related to Lopez. The similarity is simply something internet users noticed after seeing the booking photo.

According to The Watch MN, Quast is a Saint Cloud native. Her arrest reportedly came after an employee at the store recognized her from an alleged theft earlier in the week. The Daily Mail also reported that she was released the day after her arrest.

Online records suggest that the August arrest was not Quast’s first contact with law enforcement, although the current viral attention has little to do with her legal history. Instead, most of the internet appears to be focused on the surprising resemblance between her mugshot and one of the world’s most recognizable entertainers.

For now, Jennifer Lopez remains very much herself, while Quast has unexpectedly become a viral lookalike.
