‘His & Hers’ Takes Netflix by Storm, Joins Most-Watched Series Ever

Few streaming hits this year have had the staying power of ‘His & Hers’. The 6-episode Netflix mystery debuted on Jan. 8 and kept racking up views in the background long after its splashy launch. In its first week alone, it pulled in 19.9 million views and dethroned ‘Stranger Things’ as the most-watched English-language show on the platform.

The slow burn kept paying off. By April, Netflix’s numbers showed the series had passed Season 1 of ‘The Night Agent’ to become its 10th most-watched English show ever, with 98.2 million views. Based on Feeney’s 2020 novel, the story follows a news anchor and her estranged detective husband, who reunite in her hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia, to cover a murder.

Success like that rarely goes unnoticed in Hollywood, and the people behind the show are already moving on to what comes next. The team behind the Jon Bernthal and Tessa Thompson-led thriller has teamed with Fifth Season again to adapt the next book from Feeney, titled ‘Twist’. William Oldroyd, who worked on the original series, will return to write and direct.

Fifth Season will serve as studio, joined by Kristen Campo’s Campout Productions, Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael’s Freckle Films, and the Bill Dubuque and Thompson-backed Viva Maude. That is essentially the same crew that shepherded ‘His & Hers’ to the screen. ‘Twist’ is not a sequel to ‘His & Hers’, and neither Bernthal nor Thompson has been announced as part of its cast. No distributor has been named yet either.

So what is the new story about? The book follows Ariella, a flight attendant who plays the charming wife and mother in a picture-postcard village, while in London she is the glamorous new bride of a second husband. Then there is Darcy, who is happily married and believes in “the one,” until a husband is killed and his wife wants answers.

The story is told through dual perspectives and asks whether we can ever really know the person we marry. That marriage-gone-wrong hook sits squarely in the territory that made the first adaptation so bingeable. Feeney herself seems thrilled about the reunion, telling Deadline it was a very easy decision to get the band back together.

Timing is also on the project’s side. The novel is set to be published in the U.S. in February 2027 by Macmillan. That gives the series time to build momentum alongside the book’s release.

Feeney’s catalog is clearly in demand. Deadline previously revealed that Carnival Films, the producer behind ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘All Her Fault’, is adapting her novel ‘My Husband’s Wife’, while ‘Beautiful Ugly’ is in the works as a film. If ‘Twist’ gets the ‘His & Hers’ treatment, her books may soon be a fixture on screens as well as in airport bookstores.

For now, the big questions are who will play the double-life flight attendant and where the series will land. Given how the last collaboration performed on Netflix, fans will be watching closely for the next announcement.

Would you watch Twist when it arrives?
