Anne Hathaway’s ‘Verity‘ press tour has been one of the busiest of the season. The campaign has been packed with premieres, talk show appearances and viral fashion moments, and now the psychological thriller finally reaches theaters. Hathaway has been a joyful presence throughout, and her latest stop was no different.

Based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, the film was directed by Michael Showalter, who also worked with Hathaway on 2024’s ‘The Idea of You’. It was originally set for May 15, 2026 before Amazon MGM moved it to Oct. 2. The R-rated film runs 1 hour and 57 minutes, with a screenplay by Nick Antosca.

Hathaway plays renowned author Verity Crawford, while Dakota Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who relocates to the Crawford estate to ghostwrite for Verity. After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy, played by Josh Hartnett. With opening day here, the cast has been making the rounds.

New photos show Hathaway attending SiriusXM’s Front Row with the cast of ‘Verity’. The images show her beaming as she arrived and laughing on set in front of the Hits 1 logo, dressed in a black blazer, black top, and jeans with a silver necklace. The relaxed styling stood in contrast to the dramatic tone of the film she was promoting.

According to SiriusXM, Hathaway, Hartnett and Showalter joined ‘The Morning Mash Up’ hosts Ryan and Nicole on SiriusXM Hits 1 for an exclusive Front Row event at the company’s New York City studios. The conversation touched on everything from Taylor Swift and Dolly Parton to Tom Cruise. Fans can listen to the full interview on SiriusXM Hits 1 and the SiriusXM app starting Friday, Oct. 2, at 8 a.m. ET.

The Tom Cruise mention is a fun one. Hathaway is set to team up with Cruise for ‘Days of Thunder 2’ in summer 2028, and the two have gone head-to-head at the box office this weekend, as Cruise’s ‘Digger’ also opens Friday. Whether that came up in the radio conversation remains to be heard.

The timing of the event is important. Variety projects a $30 million to $35 million domestic opening from 3,510 theaters, which would make it Hathaway’s third No. 1 opening of 2026. Her earlier chart-toppers this year were ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ and ‘The Odyssey’.

The film’s budget is $40 million, so a strong opening could translate into a solid return for Amazon MGM. In comparison, ‘Digger’ is projected to open with $12 million to $15 million. That gives ‘Verity’ a clear path to the top spot.

Reviews are a different story. The film holds a 41% rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes from 65 reviews, and The Hollywood Reporter’s critic said the movie is neither sexy nor smart despite its attractive and intelligent performers. But Hoover’s loyal fanbase has proven that critics have limited influence over audience turnout.

The press cycle has also generated some online debate. Hartnett has dismissed a fan theory that Jeremy arranged the film’s opening scene to meet Lowen, calling the conspiracy insane. Showalter explained that Jeremy would have had to work closely with Lowen’s literary agent for the timing to work, and Hoover said she liked that the theory was debunked but also enjoyed the conversation around it.

In a separate interview with Variety, Hoover and Showalter discussed how Hathaway and Johnson helped make the film more erotic, as the script added back in more of the book’s steamier elements. Hoover said she is proud of the movie as an author. That kind of enthusiasm from the source material’s creator is a plus for a studio hoping to win over book fans.

For Hathaway, the SiriusXM visit was a final burst of press-tour energy before audiences decide for themselves. She is an Oscar winner with a packed year behind her, and ‘Verity’ is her fifth film of 2026. If the box office projections hold, the weekend could add another win to that streak.

Now the movie speaks for itself, and viewers will find out whether the mix of romance, mystery and melodrama delivers. For fans who have followed the campaign, Hathaway’s laughter-filled visit may be the last chapter of the buildup.
