Few TV franchises have ever been as ubiquitous as ‘Baywatch.’ During its initial 11-season run, the show became the most-watched series in the world, airing in more than 200 countries and reaching more than a billion viewers weekly. Its slow-motion beach runs and red swimsuits became a pop culture shorthand, and Fox is betting on that nostalgia with a reboot.

Getting here took years. Fremantle began toying with a revival as early as 2018, and Fox came on board in 2024 with a script plus penalty commitment. The network gave the project a straight-to-series order for 12 episodes in 2025, then pushed the premiere from fall 2026 to January 2027. An open casting call in Marina del Rey drew more than 2,000 hopefuls.

On Oct. 2 Fox released four new teaser promos for the ‘Baywatch’ reboot, each built around a pair of stars. The pairings are Stephen Amell and Jessica Belkin, Hassie Harrison and Noah Beck, Shay Mitchell and Brooks Nader, and Livvy Dunne and Thaddeus LaGrone. The series premieres in January on Fox, with episodes arriving on Hulu the next day.

The teasers offer a closer look at the new ensemble in their lifeguard roles. They follow a first teaser in May, when Amell shared a slow-motion promo on Instagram, and a second teaser in the summer. Those earlier clips played up the franchise’s signature style, with the tagline ‘same beach, new blood.’

Amell leads as Hobie Buchannon, a wild-child legacy character who has grown into a Baywatch captain following his father Mitch, played in the original by David Hasselhoff. His world is turned upside down when Charlie Vale, played by Belkin, shows up on his doorstep. She is the daughter he never knew, eager to carry on the Buchannon family legacy and become a lifeguard.

Mitchell plays Trina, Harrison is Nat, LaGrone is Brad and Beck is Luke, while Nader plays Selene, a rival Zuma Beach captain. In heavily recurring roles, original series star David Chokachi returns as Cody Madison, Mary McDonnell plays Gayle and John Beckwith plays Julian. Dunne makes her professional acting debut as junior lifeguard Grace, and Erika Eleniak is also set to reprise her original role as Shauni McClain.

‘Baywatch’ is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. Matt Nix of ‘Burn Notice’ serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. McG also directed the series premiere. Berk, Bonann and Schwartz created the original series.

Production began on Venice Beach on March 16, 2026, when the cast was photographed in the franchise’s iconic red swimsuits. Fox’s press materials promise all the adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships and beachside heroics that defined the original, now with an entirely new cast and contemporary tensions. Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn has called it one of the most iconic and popular television franchises in TV history.

The cast blends actors and social media names. Amell is best known for ‘Arrow,’ and Dunne is a former LSU gymnast and influencer. Nader, a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, is also making a major acting move.

That mix has drawn plenty of conversation online, as fans debate whether influencer casting fits the franchise. The previous big-screen version, a 2017 feature film starring Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson, played the material as a comedy. Fox appears to be taking a more earnest approach.

With teasers now flowing and a January premiere on the calendar, the reboot is entering its promotional stretch. Whether it can recapture the cultural phenomenon of the original remains to be seen.
