Olivia Wilde has spent most of 2026 doing double duty, stepping out as both the star and the director of A24’s dinner-party comedy ‘The Invite’. That kind of press cycle means a lot of red carpets, and her fashion choices have become part of the conversation around the film. A fresh round of attention has just put one of those looks back in the spotlight.

Wilde has long had a reputation for polished, directional style, and her premiere outfits tend to get as much airtime as the movies themselves. This time, the focus is on a sculptural all-black ensemble that pairs structure with a little drama.

Photos shared online on Oct. 8 show Wilde in a black crop top with voluminous puffed sleeves and a twisted, V-shaped neckline. The top is paired with a matching skirt with a dramatic ruffled hem, and she finished the outfit with dangling green earrings. Her hair is pulled back in a sleek, polished style, and she is smiling at the camera in front of a backdrop bearing the film’s name.

The caption on the post praised her for still having “that same wow factor”, and the photos drew plenty of engagement from fans. The reaction shows how much appetite there still is for Wilde’s red carpet moments, even months after the film’s premiere season began.

The look closely matches the one coverage described from the Los Angeles premiere of ‘The Invite’ in June, where Wilde wore a black crop top with balloon sleeves and a knotted V-neckline alongside a long ruffled skirt with a trail. Reports noted the dangling green earrings, a sleek bun, smoky eye makeup and soft blush. The outfit’s designer was not named in that coverage.

That detail makes the outfit a nice reminder of how long a standout fashion moment can live online. Months later, images of the same ensemble are still circulating and still winning compliments.

Wilde’s premiere appearances have varied widely in tone. At the UK special screening in London on July 1, she opted for a simple black Calvin Klein Collection dress with flats, delicate jewelry and nude lipstick, a much more understated approach than the Los Angeles look. Her slim appearance at that event drew a lot of attention, and some outlets leaned into speculation about her health.

Earlier in the year, Wilde had addressed similar chatter after the film’s opening night at the San Francisco International Film Festival, saying that a distorted fisheye lens and her closeness to the camera had made a photo look misleading. The response underlined how quickly a single image can take on a life of its own.

‘The Invite’ Star Olivia Wilde Could Make Oscar History as First Woman to Direct Herself to an Acting Nod

The film follows Angela, played by Wilde, an ex-artist and long-suffering wife whose obsession with redecorating her San Francisco apartment takes an unexpected turn. She invites her upstairs neighbors, Piña and Hawk, to a dinner party, and the evening forces her and her husband Joe to face problems they have been avoiding. Seth Rogen plays Joe, Penélope Cruz plays Piña and Edward Norton plays Hawk.

It is Wilde’s third feature as a director, following ‘Booksmart’ and ‘Don’t Worry Darling’. The screenplay by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack adapts the 2020 Spanish film ‘The People Upstairs’, directed by Cesc Gay, and Devonté Hynes composed the score.

‘The Invite’ premiered at Sundance on Jan. 24, after which A24 acquired it. It opened in a limited release on June 26 and expanded nationwide on July 10.

For anyone who missed it in theaters, the film became available to rent or buy digitally on Aug. 11 on platforms including Prime Video, Fandango At Home and Apple TV. In the US, renting costs $19.99 and buying costs $24.99, while a physical media release has been described as coming soon. An HBO Max arrival is expected eventually, though no date has been confirmed.

Wilde’s strongest looks tend to share a clear idea: strong shoulders, clean lines and one bold accessory. Here, the oversized sleeves and rich green earrings give an otherwise minimalist palette real personality. It is the kind of outfit that photographs well from every angle, which helps explain why it keeps resurfacing.

As ‘The Invite’ continues its life at home, expect Wilde’s premiere wardrobe to keep generating chatter alongside the movie itself.
