Emma Stone Turns Heads in a Sheer-Kissed Louis Vuitton Slip at the Premiere of ‘The Debut’, and Her Grin Says It All
Emma Stone does not walk many red carpets these days, so when she turns up for one, it tends to be for something she genuinely cares about. This time, the occasion was the New York Film Festival premiere of ‘The Debut’, a project she helped bring to the screen as a producer. The Emma Stone red carpet moment was as much about the film as the fashion.
Stone’s work behind the camera has become a bigger part of her career, and ‘The Debut’ sits squarely in that lane. The film comes from her production company, Fruit Tree, and arrives with a stacked ensemble and a strong early festival run. It also gave her a chance to celebrate alongside the cast and filmmakers.

The premiere took place on Wednesday evening, Oct. 7, at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, as part of the festival’s Spotlight Gala lineup. Photos from the night show Stone laughing and waving at the crowd outside the venue, with a tan coat folded over her arm and a small clutch in hand. Her hair fell in loose waves, and her wide grin made it clear she was enjoying herself.

W Magazine noted that it was her first formal red carpet appearance since the SAG Awards in March. That detail explains why the evening drew so much attention, and why the images spread so quickly online.

Stone wore a custom Louis Vuitton dress adapted from a piece in the label’s Spring 2027 runway show in Paris, which she had attended the day before. The slip-style gown has an empire waistline, a gray satin section draped across the neckline and a skirt with a faint sheer finish. She finished the look with pale strappy heels.
The original runway version featured a bright yellow underlay and embellished silver straps, while Stone’s custom take swapped those for a more muted, gray-toned palette. The result was subdued and elegant, and it kept the same flowing shape. Fashion Times reports that she sat front row at the Paris show on Tuesday, Oct. 6, before flying to New York for the premiere.

‘The Debut’ is written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg, who also stars in it and wrote its original songs. The story follows Mona Friedman, a shy housewife played by Julianne Moore, who is cast in a small role in a community theater production of an original musical. She becomes an intense method actor and clashes with the show’s domineering director, played by Paul Giamatti.
The ensemble also includes Halle Bailey, Bernadette Peters, Cara Buono, Havana Rose Liu, Colton Ryan and Bonnie Milligan, among others. Stone shares producer credit with Eisenberg, Dave McCary and Ali Herting. Topic Studios served as executive producer, and A24 is the distributor.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and it is also in the main competition at the San Sebastian International Film Festival. It is part of the Spotlight Gala section of the New York Film Festival as well, and it will close the BFI London Film Festival on Oct. 18 as the UK premiere. That is a busy autumn for a movie that has only just started to meet audiences.
Early critical reaction is promising. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists a 91% Tomatometer score based on 55 reviews. The score could shift as more reviews arrive, but the start is a strong one for a musical comedy about the thrill and absurdity of community theater.

A24 will release ‘The Debut’ in limited theaters on Dec. 11, followed by a wide release on Christmas Day. In the UK, Lionsgate will open it on Jan. 15, 2027. The film is rated R and runs about 1 hour and 45 minutes.
For Stone, the film’s rollout offers a fresh reminder of how much she has expanded her role in the industry. She is credited here not as a star but as a champion of the project, and the pride on her face on the carpet made that very clear.
