George and Amal Clooney hosted the fifth annual Albies on Friday, October 9, at London’s Natural History Museum. The Clooney Foundation for Justice created the awards in 2022 and named them after Justice Albie Sachs, a leader of the anti-apartheid movement in South Africa.
The ceremony honors human rights defenders, journalists and activists who put their lives at risk in the pursuit of justice. This year’s honorees included Kyrgyz journalists Bolot Temirov and Makhabat Tazhibek Kyzy, girls’ rights advocate Vanessa Mwangala from Malawi and Congo’s Justice Plus. Graham Norton hosted, and guests included Brad Pitt, Anna Wintour, Laura Dern and Emily Ratajkowski.

Amal, 48, arrived in a custom gold sequin Gucci gown that instantly became the night’s focal point. The sculpted silhouette featured an off-the-shoulder neckline and a fitted bodice, with rows of sequins cascading into a column skirt with long dangling fringe.
The color story was just as striking. The sequins graduate from a brighter metallic finish at the bodice and hips to softer gold tones toward the hem. Against the dark velvet backdrop, the dress glowed.

Amal kept her accessories polished and restrained. She wore Cartier diamond drop earrings, gold pointed-toe slingback heels and a silvery, crystal-covered Gucci clutch. Her hair fell in soft waves with an old-Hollywood side part.
George complemented her in a classic black Gucci tuxedo with a bow tie. The couple posed arm in arm in front of the dark curtains, both smiling, and the contrast between his understated tailoring and her high-shine gown made the pairing look effortless.
Gucci joined the Albies as a fashion partner for the first time this year, so Amal’s choice was far from a coincidence. In years past, she has nodded to the fashion house that backs the event.
