‘The Gilded Age’ Season 4 Trailer and Release Date Revealed
High society has never looked so unsteady. After seasons of social climbing, feuds and carefully staged dinners, the Russells, van Rhijns and everyone orbiting them are about to face the consequences of their ambitions. HBO has finally given fans a proper look at what is coming.
A new official trailer for ‘The Gilded Age‘ has been released, and it comes with a firm premiere date. The new season debuts on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, with episodes also streaming on HBO Max. It will run for 8 episodes, the same number as Seasons 2 and 3.
The trailer runs about 1 minute and 47 seconds, and one on-screen line sets the tone: “Everything is wrong.” That is a long way from the polished world of high-society New York, and early impressions suggest the series is leaning into a more dramatic, higher-stakes tone than before.

The story picks up after the third season’s cliffhanger, in which George and Bertha Russell’s marriage was on the rocks while Larry and Marian were hesitantly rebuilding their relationship. According to the official description, Bertha’s family must now reckon with the consequences of her decisions as she helped reshape society. Relationships, careers and faith are all tested.
The trailer reportedly shows a tense reconciliation between Bertha, played by Carrie Coon, and her husband, played by Morgan Spector. It also shows Bertha attempting to keep her failing marriage hidden. That pressure, set against the glittering backdrop of the era, is the kind of drama the show does best.
Christine Baranski’s Agnes van Rhijn is trying to regain her position among the elite after falling in status. Her sister Ada Forte, played by Cynthia Nixon, has risen in standing, and the trailer sets up a showdown with Bertha. One recap says Agnes will be hosting a presidential dinner, a high-stakes occasion that promises plenty of social warfare.
Meanwhile, Marian, played by Louisa Jacobson, begins a new chapter in her life. Peggy, played by Denée Benton, gets to know her in-laws, including William’s mother. Those storylines add more personal stakes alongside the society rivalries.
The new season brings a notable batch of newcomers. Dennis Haysbert plays Dr. Reginald Harris, William’s mentor, who comes to New York. Taylor Trensch plays Oliver, a new arrival at the van Rhijn house, and Neal Huff plays John D. Rockefeller.
Other additions include Bonnie Milligan, James Scully and Maggie Kuntz. Stage stars such as Tony winners Audra McDonald and Donna Murphy also appear in the trailer, continuing the series’ tradition of casting Broadway talent. Returning favorites include Harry Richardson, Louisa Jacobson, Denée Benton and many more.

With weekly episodes starting on a Sunday, the series is expected to wrap in December. That makes it the second time the show has premiered in the fall, following Season 2. HBO has also positioned the new season for the winter awards cycle.
Creator Julian Fellowes, who is known for ‘Downton Abbey’, writes every episode. The series is co-produced by HBO and Universal Television, and it has grown in viewership across its run. Before the third season finale, HBO said premiere-night viewing had grown for 5 consecutive weeks and was up 20% from the previous season.
The appeal of ‘The Gilded Age’ has always been the mix of sumptuous costumes, sharp dialogue and old-money versus new-money warfare. The trailer suggests all of that is intact, with the added weight of consequences. For fans of period drama, the arrival of a new season near the holidays is a welcome treat.
It also arrives in a crowded landscape of prestige television, where costume dramas have to compete for attention. With an ensemble this deep and a story that has been building for years, the series looks set to stay in the conversation.
