‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed’ Gets a Renewal From Apple TV, and Tatiana Maslany’s Paula Isn’t Out of Trouble Yet
Apple TV has built a reputation for turning twisty, star-driven thrillers into word-of-mouth hits, and its latest dark comedy fits that pattern perfectly. A show about blackmail, murder and youth soccer shouldn’t work as well as it does, which is exactly why fans have been watching the streamer’s decision so closely.
The series arrived in May with a double-episode premiere and rolled out weekly through its finale on July 15. Reviews were very positive, with critics praising the cast and Tatiana Maslany in particular, and viewers highlighted its tight 30 to 40 minute episodes. It was created as an ongoing series rather than a limited one, which left the door open for more.
Now Apple TV has made it official. ‘Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed‘ has been renewed for a second season, the streamer announced Wednesday. A writers’ room is already underway, and production is scheduled for the first half of 2027, about 3 months after the first season concluded.
The story follows Paula, played by Maslany, a newly divorced mom in the middle of a custody battle who finds companionship in video calls with a sex worker named Trevor, played by Brandon Flynn. During one of those calls she witnesses him being violently attacked by a masked intruder. When the police dismiss it as an online hoax, Paula starts her own investigation and falls down a rabbit hole of blackmail, murder and youth soccer.
The mix of tones is what has made it stand out. Reviewers have described it as equal parts family drama, mystery thriller and comedy, with a bond between Paula and her young daughter forming much of its heart.
Spoilers ahead for the finale. By the end of the season, Paula clears her name in a double murder and wins back custody of her daughter Hazel. Then she receives a threatening message from a mystery caller, along with incriminating video from her past.
That cliffhanger gives the writers plenty to work with. Creator and showrunner David J. Rosen said in a statement that the team is delighted to continue the story, calling it pretty amazing for a show whose title came from a spam email. He had previously teased that the show would keep its heroine on her toes.

Maslany, who won an Emmy for playing a myriad of clones on ‘Orphan Black’, leads an ensemble that includes Jake Johnson, Murray Bartlett, Dolly De Leon, Brandon Flynn, Jessy Hodges and Jon Michael Hill. Charlie Hall, Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg and Nola Wallace are also in the cast. Apple has not yet confirmed who will return for the new episodes.
Rosen, who also created Apple TV’s ‘Sugar’ with Colin Farrell, serves as showrunner and executive producer. David Gordon Green is an executive producer and directed the first episode. Simon Kinberg and Audrey Chon of Genre Films, Anonymous Content’s Bard Dorros, and Apple Studios and Counterpart Studios are also involved.

With production not starting until next year, a return is likely to be some time away. The first half of 2027 filming window suggests the new episodes would arrive later in the year or beyond, though Apple has not announced a premiere date. The streamer has a strong track record of keeping its hit thrillers on a steady schedule.
For now, the renewal is a welcome vote of confidence for a show that began as an unlikely premise. It also adds another title to a streaming lineup that has leaned heavily on distinctive, character-driven stories. Paula’s troubles, it seems, are far from over.
