Deadpool Takes Over Doctor Doom’s Throne at Marvel’s Seoul Halloween Event to Promote ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel’s global campaign for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ has turned Doctor Doom’s throne into a travelling attraction, and fans have been finding new ways to pose on it. In South Korea, the Deadpool Doctor Doom throne photo is the latest viral moment to come out of that tour. It’s a perfect example of the studio’s tongue-in-cheek approach to promoting a very serious villain.

The images also arrive as Marvel leans hard into Halloween. Costumes, stunts and fan events have kept the film in the conversation for weeks, and the studio seems happy to let characters from other corners of the MCU crash the party. A mercenary with a mouth is an obvious candidate.

New photos from South Korea show someone dressed as Deadpool lounging across Doom’s throne in the character’s red-and-black suit, with a pair of katanas on his back. In one shot he reclines casually with his legs stretched out, and in another he sits upright, aiming a gold pistol while holding a silver Doctor Doom mask in his other hand. A Korean-language sign above the display reads that the film opens in theaters in December, with the ‘Doomsday’ title written in Korean lettering behind it.

The sources I found don’t say who was inside the suit or whether the appearance was officially organized by Marvel. What the images do show is the throne display itself, which includes a tall, ornate seat set against a backdrop of green stained-glass panels. That matches the look Marvel has been using in its promotion of the film.

The setup appears to match a photo zone that was part of Seoul’s Marvel-themed Halloween event at Ttukseom Hangang Park. According to The Korea Herald, visitors could explore a costume parade, event booths and a photo zone inspired by Doom’s throne and stained glass. A social media event ran from noon to 7 p.m., with Marvel merchandise offered to the first 1,000 participants.

The Walt Disney Company Korea announced the activities as part of the lead-up to the movie. In the evening, a 15-minute drone show called ‘Marvel Special’ used 2,000 drones, a record for the city’s Han River series. Footage showed Thanos transforming into Iron Man and then into Doctor Doom, tracing Robert Downey Jr.’s journey from Tony Stark to the villain.

Seoul’s drone shows have become a major attraction. City officials said the series drew about 197,000 spectators across seven performances through October 9, with attendance averaging roughly 28,000 per show compared with 11,000 when the series began in 2023. Foreign visitors made up about 35% of the audience at the five performances held in the first half of 2026.

The Halloween show was also the city’s final Han River drone performance of the year. That made it a natural stage for a Marvel partnership, with the photo zone giving people something to do before the lights went up. A Deadpool cameo on the throne fits neatly into that carnival atmosphere.

The throne has been showing up around the world. Marvel presented a giant replica at an expo in Shanghai, brought a version to the Philippines and placed Doom on his throne in an AMC theater standee in the United States. Japan, meanwhile, has received statues of Doom in its own displays, and a theater in Argentina showed a Doom statue in a glowing green case.

That repetition builds a consistent visual identity for the movie. The seat, the stained glass and the green lighting have all been used across posters, merchandise and installations. Korea’s version adds a playful twist by inviting another Marvel icon to sit where Doom normally would.

South Korea is a significant market for the franchise. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ drew 13.97 million admissions there, and Disney Korea has been actively promoting the new film with teaser artwork, a ‘Doom’s Arrival’ poster and a trailer titled ‘Doom’s Judgment’. The movie opens there on December 16, two days before its US release on December 18.

That earlier date is part of a broader pattern. Taiwan, China and the United Kingdom are also set to receive the film on December 16. Marvel appears to be trying to build momentum globally rather than relying on the US launch alone.

Deadpool is a natural fit for this kind of stunt. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ grossed $1.33 billion worldwide, and the character’s irreverent style makes him a favorite for fan events. Reports said ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ earned about double the first-day presales of that film, which only adds to the humor of seeing the Merc with a Mouth on Doom’s seat.

Whether or not the character appears in the movie, the image works as a joke about who might have the guts to sit on the villain’s throne. It also reinforces the idea that Doom’s seat is up for grabs, which suits the film’s multiverse theme.

Online reaction has been enthusiastic, with fans posting the photos and joking that Deadpool had no right to the seat. Some noticed the gold pistol and the silver Doom mask and speculated about what the pose might mean. There’s no indication that the display reveals anything about the film’s plot.

For now, it’s another reminder of how much fun Marvel is having with this campaign. The studio has turned its biggest villain into a global mascot, and fans are happy to join in. And if one of its most chaotic heroes wants to lounge on the throne in the meantime, nobody seems to be stopping him.

Which Marvel character would you most like to see take over Doctor Doom’s throne next?
