‘Best Medicine’ Season 2 Episode 6 Recap & Ending Explained: Savannah’s Miracle Cures and Martin’s Heartache
Few shows make small-town chaos feel as cozy as ‘Best Medicine’, and the Fox dramedy leaned into that formula again this week. This ‘Best Medicine’ Season 2 Episode 6 recap covers “Can’t Stop the Healing,” which aired Nov. 3 and brought a familiar troublemaker back to Port Wenn. Spoilers follow for the full episode.
The American adaptation of ‘Doc Martin’ follows Dr. Martin Best (Josh Charles), a Boston surgeon turned small-town doctor who hides a phobia of blood. Season 2 has been built around the fallout from that secret and a love square that grew more tangled in the Season 1 finale on April 7. Heading into this hour, Martin had ended things with his girlfriend, Eden, and shared an emotional hug with Louisa (Abigail Spencer).
Savannah Returns With a Healing Center
The episode’s engine is Savannah (Heléne Yorke), the self-styled alternative healer whose fox gave six people the plague during her first visit. She returns with a naturopathy license and opens a healing center in the back of Irma’s salon. Soon the town is buzzing about miraculous cures, and Martin sets out to debunk every one of them.
Plenty of residents are happy to side with her, and one patient even points out that her line is longer than Martin’s. Another suggests she might cure the doctor’s terrible personality, and Martin fires back that she hasn’t cured the patient’s. Her credibility finally collapses when a carrot diet turns a woman orange.
Trouble at the Salty Breeze
A second storyline unfolds in the kitchen. George (Jason Veasey) is preparing for a visit from an influential food critic when Savannah offers to cure his cold, and her homeopathic remedies leave him unable to taste anything. Greg (Stephen Spinella) suggests bringing back Gina, the pizza truck owner from earlier in the season, who helps George improve his scallops.
According to Soap Central’s recap, the critic turns out to be one of Martin’s patients in disguise. Elsewhere, Sheriff Mark (Josh Segarra) struggles to tell Martin about his hookup with Eden, and Elaine (Cree) lands a New Hampshire agent and books her first audition.
‘Best Medicine’ Season 2 Episode 6 Ending Explained
The emotional core of the hour belongs to Parker (Jack Cutmore-Scott), Martin’s medical monitor, who is also growing close to Louisa. Martin sees the two share an intimate moment, and he takes it as a betrayal when Aunt Sarah (Annie Potts) says she likes Parker. Parker then reveals that he and Martin knew each other in medical school, which leaves Louisa worried that their history could color his judgment of Martin’s work and threaten his career.
In the final scenes, Louisa confronts Martin about that history. Martin asks what she likes about Parker, and she answers that he is a good listener. The reply lands hard for a man who doesn’t see himself as a people person, and Louisa is left in tears after the conversation.
Martin’s last move shows what the ending is really about. He offers to be there for Glendon, a local bully, if Glendon begins cancer treatment. It reads as Martin’s first real attempt to become the kind of person Louisa says she needs.

What the Ending Means for Martin and Louisa
The healing plot and the romance plot are connected. Savannah’s methods are exposed as anything but miraculous, and Port Wenn comes away with a better understanding of Martin’s skepticism. Yet Louisa’s answer suggests that being right is not the same as being heard, which is exactly where Martin keeps falling short.
Parker was introduced after Martin was reported to the medical board for letting Elaine draw blood because of his phobia. Executive producer Rodney Ferrell teased during a TV Insider set visit that the storyline is “a juicy, big arc of the season.” This episode shows why, as the tension spills into Martin’s professional life.
That emotional escalation fits what the cast promised before the season began. Charles told PauseRewind at an FYC event that great shows in their second seasons “just go further, go deeper.” Episode 6 puts that idea into practice by pairing broad comedy with a painful character beat.
What’s Next for ‘Best Medicine’
Episode 7, “Love Is a Battlefield,” airs Nov. 10 on Fox. Martin grows concerned when residents begin showing tremors and odd behavior during the Port Wenn Revolutionary War reenactment. He is also still dealing with Louisa’s new relationship, while Elaine and Al worry that Bert will be lonely when they leave for New York City.
Do you think Martin can win Louisa back by changing his ways?
